Presidential Winners and Losers
Townhall.com ^ | November 7, 2020 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 11/07/2020 5:19:59 AM PST by Kaslin

It's crazy political times like these that I long for how quickly, simply and peacefully the 1980 presidential election ended.

That was the year President Jimmy Carter called my father at 5 in the afternoon of Election Day - while he was in the shower - and congratulated him on winning the presidency.

Votes were still being counted and probably half the country hadn't voted yet, but by early evening Carter already knew he was being swept out of office by the Ronald Reagan landslide.

On Tuesday, Democrats were expecting to see a repeat of 1980.

They thought President Trump would be so far behind by dinner time that he'd have to call Joe Biden and concede.

For months they and the country's inept pollsters, blind pundits, and dishonest journalists had convinced themselves that a mighty Blue Wave was coming.

A Biden Blowout was going to sweep away Donald Trump, half a dozen senators like Lindsay Graham and dozens of Republican House members and put Democrats in charge of both houses of Congress and the White House.

But their Great Blue Wave turned out to be a Blue Mirage.

It looks like after a few weeks of legal challenges and a recount or two, Joe Biden is going to win, which would be a huge and impressive victory for the Democrats.

But otherwise, Election 2020 has been a political disaster for their party.

Democrats lost at least six seats in the House and legislative majorities in several states. But most important, Republicans appear on course to keep control of the Senate, dashing dangerous pipedreams of the party's old and young socialists to get rid of the filibuster and pack the Supreme Court.

Ditto for Joe Biden's promises to implement the Green New Deal, destroy our energy industry and punish the rich by jacking up taxes on incomes, capital gains, and corporations.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump may be on his way out but his Republican Party will live on and haunt the Democrat Party.

In four years Trump has single-handedly enlarged, energized, and diversified the old GOP, turning it into an energized America-first movement for millions of everyday citizens.

And though he was unfairly called a racist and a white supremacist by Democrats and the media every day for almost five years, he shocked the Democrats and impressed the liberal media this week by capturing a historic number of black, Latino, and Jewish votes.

Based on early exit polls, Trump won 26 percent of non-white voters. For a Republican, that's huge.

Instead of 8 percent he won 12 percent of the black vote, 18 percent of black men, and 8 percent of black women. More impressive, he won 32 percent of the Hispanic vote and 36 percent of Hispanic men.

President Trump was on his way to doing what many of us in the Republican Party knew we needed to do decades ago.

During the Bush II years, when I spoke to a few hundred fellow Republicans during a breakfast meeting in Florida, I told them the party had been more diverse when my father was president.

I said we needed to reach out to minorities. To prove my point, I said, "Will all the blacks and Hispanics eating breakfast with us this morning please stand up."

They all looked around at each other. No one stood. The only blacks and Hispanics in the room were serving breakfast, not eating it.

I told those Republicans that if the Party of Reagan was to survive it had to reach out to blacks and Hispanics every single year, not every two years or four years, but no one really listened until an outsider named Donald Trump came along.

President Trump's days may be numbered. But whether you are a Republican who loved him or hated him, you should give him the credit he is due.

He's shown Republicans the roadmap to the black, Hispanic, and Jewish voter. If we hope to take back the House, keep the Senate, and win the White House in the future, we need to follow that map.

Not to attack you, but I got the impression you were one of the more politically expert, here. I don’t think it’s as you described.

These votes are not distributed or counted evenly. I would think that they are actually a disproportionate part of the states that are currently in dispute in this election.

All presidential politicians talk about the “black vote”, but they really mean large numbers of urban votes in key states that will swing an election.

Thanks. LOL.

You’re actually making my point. Look what happened in all these “swing states.” Trump did better in 2016 with 9% support among black voters than he’s done so far in 2020 with 12% support among them.

I was listening to Catholic radio before the election and they said they couldn’t support one candidate over another.

I suggest you choose your Catholic radio station more carefully. Might I suggest what is easily the biggest gorilla in the Catholic market, EWTN? The Left, including the Catholic Left, have been complaining about EWTN's pro-Trump commentary and positive interviews with Trump himself and his advisors since 2016.

They're not known for sitting on the fence.

He had me until that sentence, then I stopped reading.

Well then, choke laughing, I guess.

There is cheating going on here. I don’t know how you can think that proves your point.

And no thanks to you.

What is it with Republicans in the main stream who don't even understand their own freaking base?

Trump's party will live on and haunt the Republican Party first before putting down the Democrat Party like the rabid dogs that they are.

There is cheating going on here? I’m sure there is. I’ll keep laughing while you post all the evidence to show that it has made a huge difference in the final vote counts.

The Catholics are so hooked on social justice and confused about immigrants rights they don’t realize they’re voting for baby killers when they vote democrat. Not all of course but Jesus said that you’re either with me or against me.

Those "Catholic" radio mouthpieces are tools of Moloch and The Great Deceiver.

No Catholic I know supports sacrificing babies to Moloch by not supporting Trump over Joe and The Racist Hoe.

It was actually much, much more - if you look at the numbers of fraudulent votes (in Milwaukee, for one example).

You KNOW they were throwing out Trump votes in Milwaukee and other places like DeToilette and Sh*tcago and Philly.

Heck, I saw that video of a voter-counter crumple up a vote in anger and throw it away...

“”It’s a respect for his fellow Man that Lindsay Graham will never understand.””

Can we stop with the bashing of Lindsay Graham? Would you have been happier if he’d lost his seat to someone whose campaign spent over $100,000,000 to beat him? Lindsay Graham is one man among 100 and is not and never promised to be a miracle worker. You have unreasonable expectations from one person. We may not be out of the woods yet as we have two run offs in GA for the US Senate..If we don’t get those and we lose the WH, you can then complain and we will have lost a country.

All Republicans are beginning to surrender and starting to speak of "the inevitable".

I see people talking about the "percentage" of the "black vote" in the big cities.

How anyone can determine what the actual percentage is when fake votes pumped up the "turnout" to 100 percent plus - in a couple of cases, 200 percent - is beyond me.

I don't talk fake numbers with people. And I certainly don't talk "percentages" with people who deny massive TARGETED cheating was going on.

I'm referring to other people on this thread...  winking face

“”And then he told voters to vote by mail and again in person.””

He did no such thing. Do you work for the MSM or at least watch them and believe their lies? He said to CHECK that their vote had been received and if it hadn’t, to go in person to vote!

I know how it works - my liberal sister believed that he told people to VOTE TWICE and I know what TV news she watches!!

I expect that we agree very much. It is not always possible to convey oneself clearly, here or anywhere.

I support Graham keeping his seat and I supported him in his judicial nomination efforts for Trump.

I think Amnesty is pandering or worse, however, and it may be that he cannot let it go. His history was illustrative of the point I was trying to make, I thought.

I also know that the “Press” loves to spread division and gleefully elicits controversial statements, like current utterances in support of Amnesty from Graham, so I don’t pretend to know clearly his current thinking.

I want him to keep his seat, certainly, and continue support for Trump.

I hope Trump can pull it out, but it looks like too much fraud in all the right states. The media and the dems told us ahead of time what would happen with a red mirage.

He said to CHECK that their vote had been received and if it hadn’t, to go in person to vote!

And that was a stupid thing to say because the voting rolls were unlikely to have been updated to reflect ALL of the mail-in ballots that had been received.
