An American hostage has been rescued in West Africa by SEAL Team 6 in a daring raid, Fox News has learned.
The elite SEAL Team 6 staged a daring raid in the West African country of Nigeria, rescuing Philip Walton, 27, who had been taken hostage, officials told Fox News.
“We had to get him before any potential trade or sale,” one U.S. official said.
President Donald Trump tweeted out a show of support, calling the operation a "big win" for the elite force, and promised further details.
Walton was kidnapped in Niger, which borders Nigeria, earlier this week. The hostage rescue took place in northern Nigeria earlier today.
The SEALs rescued Walton after killing a number of his captors. SEAL Team 6 was chosen for the operation because they are responsible for West Africa, Fox News has learned.
“U.S. forces conducted a hostage rescue operation during the early hours of 31 October in Northern Nigeria to recover an American citizen held hostage by a group of armed men," Jonathan Hoffman, chief Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.
"This American citizen is safe and is now in the care of the U.S. Department of State. No U.S military personnel were injured during the operation."

Back in the mid-1980’s I met an American missionary who had been kidnapped in southern Sudan. He was over 6 feet tall, and balding.
The US (CIA?) located, on satellite photos of the suspected area, a bald white man whose shadow indicated that he was at least 6 feet tall.
IIRC, it was a Sudanese special forces team which rescued him, not US.

I voted for him because he wasn’t hillary. I was temp banned here twice for badmouthing him. On election night I said to my wife, “The good news is that Hillary lost. The bad news is that Trump won.”
I’ve done a complete 180. I think he’s better than Reagan. I voted FOR reagan in 1980. I voted AGAINST Walter Mondale. Sure, I liked reagan in many ways, but he did some things that I did not like. He just became “another politician” to me, by the end of his first term.
Trump is the opposite. For only the second time in my life, I’ll be voting FOR a candidate next Tuesday, Lord willing. He blew it up. The presidency will never be the same once he’s gone.
Of course, I also think 2020 will be our last presidential election, no matter who wins. I’ve felt that way for two years and events the last six months only confirm it. Do people realize that at the heart of this whole Biden thing that is exploding is the very thing Trump was impeached for? This next year will make 2020 look downright boring.
