Russian air strikes in northern Syria have killed more than 50 Turkish-backed militia fighters in the mainly rebel-held province of Idlib, reports say.
Many others were wounded in the attack, which marks an escalation of violence in the region.
A training base for an Islamist group called Faylaq al-Sham was hit.
The assault puts at risk a ceasefire in Idlib, brokered and monitored by Russia and Turkey, which back opposite sides in the war.
UK-based monitoring group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the number of dead at 78.

Seems like Russia and Turkey are beefing, and Russia courting Armenia to add to its mix with Syria. Maybe Russia exploiting a NATO weakness since much of NATO (at least the people, and probably many of the NATO brass) are not very fond of Turkish government at the moment.

This isn’t really about Syria. It’s about Armenia. The Russians are reminding the Turks that they can reach out and hurt them without going into Turkey.

Turkey may find that their fancy S-400 missile system has some unexpected glitches.

They aren't both Eastern Orthodox.
The Russians are part of the Eastern Orthodox communion along with the Greeks, Bulgarians, etc. but the Armenian Church is part of the Oriental Church (which split from the Orthodox-Catholic groups in the 400s) - they are called by the Orthodox-Catholic as Miaphysites

Actually, no. The Russians are Orthodox. The Armenians are non-Chalcedonian Orthodox - more commonly called Oriental Orthodox. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriental_Orthodox_Churches It’s an argument about the human and divine natures of Christ.
The Russian Orthodox Church and the Armenian Church are not in communion with one another. There are fewer than 8,000 Eastern Orthodox adherents in Armenia according to the Census of 2011, mainly Russians, Ukrainians, Georgians and Greeks.
