Charlie Kirk says he's in 'a hostage situation' with Twitter after social media giant blocks his account

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk blasted Twitter after the social media giant blocked the Turning Point USA founder for “violating rules against posting misleading information about voting.”

“I’m kind of in a hostage situation with Twitter,” Kirk said Sunday on Fox News’ “The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton.” “I do not have access to my Twitter account because I tweeted a widely reported story.”

The social media platform – which has been lambasted by conservative lawmakers and pundits over the last week for blocking users from sharing a New York Post article about Hunter Biden’s alleged emails – blocked Kirk from using the site after he tweeted a story about mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania in which he incorrectly stated that people had requested multiple ballots.

An amended version of the story indicated that numerous people in the key battleground state had requested multiple ballot applications.

“Things are constantly changing in the news cycle,” Kirk said. “Why should Twitter have the power to silence my entire 1.8 million person audience just because a news story changes and I tweeted something that was absolutely and completely widely reported at the time.”

Twitter has refused to unlock the New York Post's account since Wednesday unless the outlet deletes six tweets about its reporting on 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, the Post reported.

I would call it extortion and conspiracy to commit extortion.

Can’t somebody file a lawsuit or injunction against Twitter and Facebook and get them to rule on that exemption? That seems the best way to get rid of that ridiculous law.

It will be breathtaking to watch the coordinated stooge media/Big Tech effort to publicize the coming dem October Surprise. It will be based solely on anonymously sourced or leaked democrat “bombshells”. They will seamlessly go from “violates policy” to “too important not to publicize”.

The Section gives them limited immunity from libel when something libelous is posted by a customer. Provided they are not in general curating what users write.

Repealing that section would not really have any effect here.

Has Charlie Kirk be libeled by Twitter? Probably not.

Yes, they could then end up being sued by a lot of people, and it could get expensive for them. But using the law is slow and nothing would happen right now.

Thanks for explanation. Agree that timing is too late now.

I just think that even though the courts are slow, getting that section changed by congress would be even slower.

They are violating the spirit and letter of that exemption. I’m not a lawyer, but seems pretty blatant.

I am somewhat disappointed in the reaction of my brethren Freepers on this matter. Yes, by all means expose what FB and Twitter are doing but at the same time also realize they do not own the internet. We are conservatives and should believe in the power of the free market. There are other sites (i.e. Parler, Bitchute, etc.) where you can obtain this information. There are sites other than FB and Twitter where one can go and stay informed. In fact, I am posting on one of those sites now.

They’re censoring news articles and opinions critical of social media and the communists, while not banning isis accounts used to recruit people.

The (not the correct enough term) favoritism should be enough to have 230 torn down with prejudice. They have clearly turned into a publisher, deciding what may and may not remain on their site.

I don’t disagree.
But changing this law won’t get you any short term satisfaction.
And long term, the implications are unclear.
How would it effect https://TheDonald.win for example?

.... The move prompted fresh criticism on social media over the Biden transition team’s hiring of top Facebook executive Jessica Hertz, which reportedly came days after the 2020 Democrat’s campaign penned a letter to the social media giant urging them to censor President Trump’s posts.

Twitter’s suppression of the Hunter Biden revelations also came days after the company’s director of public policy, Carlos Monje, reportedly left his post to work for the Biden transition team.

“In a related story, Carlos Monje recently left Twitter as director of public policy to join Joe Biden’s transitional team,” Concha wrote.

Hertz was principal deputy counsel in the Office of the Vice President from 2012 to 2014 according to her LinkedIn, while Monje worked on the Obama White House’s Domestic Policy Council according to his LinkedIn.

Hertz will oversee enforcement of the Biden campaign’s ethics plan and related matters.
“As the Vice President’s former deputy counsel with experience advising high-level federal agency officials, Jess is exactly the kind of thoughtful and principled decision-maker who can ensure the Vice President’s high standards are upheld during the transition,” a campaign spokesperson told the New York Post.
