The makers of Eskimo Pie ice cream have announced the new name for their brand, losing a 100-year-old trademark which is now considered racially insensitive.
From 2021 Eskimo Pie will be known as Edy's Pie - a tribute to one of their founders, Joseph Edy.
In 1928 Edy and William Dreyer decided to join forces to manufacture ice cream, beginning a company which owns Eskimo Pie and is now known as Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, in turn owned by Nestle.

I thought they were getting rid of the ‘pie’ part!................
Democrats are evil.
ISWYDT................
The Inuit never called themselves "Eskimos."
Rather, the epithet "Eskimo" was invented by neighboring Indian tribes - probably as a pejorative.
It means "eater of raw meat."
Regards,
There’s is an opportunity for someone to start selling Inuit Pie.
Everything should be named instead in honor of numbers, letters, and folks that have pioneered the LGBTQ and marijuana movement. There is no greater hero than anyone involved in those two movements.
Lots of folks actually. It’s a bigger deal in Canada. But the simple fact is it’s going away. It’s a label for the people given to them by others and they prefer their own names. And frankly there’s nothing wrong with that. Language evolves, for many reasons, but it does evolve. Eskimo is going away like the payphone.
Can’t they save the Eskimo name?
Honorable Eskimo Pie?
Not so drunk Eskimo Pie?
Doesn’t live anywhere near the stereotypical north pole Eskimo Pie?
I am part Inuit, and I LOVE Eskimo Pie! :-)
I wonder if there is a market for insensitive brands? Obviously it is not possible to sell through woke supermarkets, but perhaps 100% delivery by mail would work. There could be Injun Buffalo Jerky, Sambo’s cakes, High-Yeller Cornbread mix, Jap Teriyaki Sauce, Chink Instant Rice, Red Dot Curry Paste, Guinea Go WOP WOP pasta sauce, and Limey Fish and Chips.
“why is the word Eskimo derogatory”
That’s a leftist invention. The word originated from another Indian tribe and has been adopted by everyone else. A friend who worked with Mayans was asked by them if he knew any “Eskimales” because he showed them how far north he lived (PA).
Only Canada started using inuit. All the other polar peaople are just fine with Eskimo. It wasn’t a perjorative.
What a bunch of crap. So how long does it go until the name Edy is derogatory?
Call it Whitey Pie! Crackas dont get offended,
When companies go wok, they go broke.
Whitey Pie. Lolllolllol.
And that will kill the product outright
That’s clever.
Klondike bars are better anyway.
