Who thinks its derogatory? The Inuit never called themselves "Eskimos."
Rather, the epithet "Eskimo" was invented by neighboring Indian tribes - probably as a pejorative.
It means "eater of raw meat."

Only Canada started using inuit. All the other polar peaople are just fine with Eskimo. It wasn’t a perjorative.
