Yelp now posts warnings to consumers about businesses accused of racist behavior

If you’re browsing through Yelp reviews, you might come across a new consumer alert, warning you that a business has been “accused of racist behavior.”

“Recently, someone associated with this business was accused of racist behavior, resulting in an influx of people posting their views to this page,” the warning says.

There has been a substantial increase in the number of reviews mentioning Black-owned businesses, Yelp said in a news release Thursday. This summer, Yelp saw a 617% rise in such reviews compared with last year.

“While searches for Black-owned businesses surged on Yelp, so did the volume of reviews warning users of racist behavior at businesses,” the company said.

In the interest of the company’s “zero tolerance policy to racism,” it will now place a consumer alert on a business’s page “to caution people about businesses that may be associated with overtly racist actions.”

I do not depend on the whims, coughs, wheezes, and gas passing that constitutes the world of online shop reviews.

Just more fascist mentality cloaked as virtue.

Humans have not changed, and when these things happened in the past, few of the constituent humans making up the mobs thought they were doing anything wrong.

In fact, they thought they were quite on the leading edge of virtue, which allowed them to overcome any pangs of conscious bubbling up from what remained of their human subconscious. in RadicalVirtue® you might need to break some eggs ... and lives ... for the greater good of the greater collective. Acting unvirtuously in the name of virtue is a sacrifice and hence virtuous. So goes human cognition, so has it always. intimately tied to original sin, which is the attachment to the illusion of self as reality rather than utility.

When the mob comes for me, which it inevitably will since I am not a part of it and hence I will eventually appear to it as an existential threat no matter what I believe, I will not hate the mob, but nor will I care for the lives of its constituents any more than I would a deranged rabid racoon leaping at me or my family.

Denunciations could land on people like any in totalitarian regimes and shake downs will get very common.

If they put such a notice on our business without giving the opportunity to dispute and block it, and without paying them for the “privilege” of doing so, I’ll be seeing them in court. A figure a good slander, libel & tortious interference win (or settlement) will allow me to retire very comfortably.

LoL I’m not being sarcastic. I’ve seen companies fire bad apples and change their habits/tidy up because of their desire for positive reviews.

Please note: I feel that Los Angeles doesn’t have the same culture of basic politeness ad service that is signature to most other parts of America. Immigrants a plenty have incredible cuisine to cook up and offer — but some are from *communist* / former Soviet countries where customer service is non-existent and rudeness is the way of things by default. As well as accountability. Also stinginess can be an issue due to culture of scarcity. (I know having lived in Russia.)

I have yet to leave a yelp review though. 9 times out of 10, I log on after an experience only to find someone had already addressed my very issue.

Nope! There will be reporting of more black businesses for “racism”. This will backfire spectacularly!

In a Capitalist Society businesses will go out of business if their customer service sucks, their product sucks, or if they are indeed racist. No one will do business with them if they are racist as the vast majority of people do not want to be associated with any sort of racism. Capitalism has been the best system for reducing racism, especially on the business aspect of society, which touches nearly every aspect of society.

"While searches for Black-owned businesses surged on Yelp..."

Can I search for White-owned businesses?

Hey, rktman, anything any white person says is ALWAYS offensive to someone.

It’s our burden to bear.

Maybe us white folks need reparations too!

Wow, I never even thought to publicize that 3 of 4 owners of my business are black. Granted I’m the majority owner, and I’m white, but my partners are all black. But I never thought that had any impact upon our ability to serve our clients.

So confusing are identity politics.

The BLM group in Louisville has ALREADY extorted businesses with threats of bad reviews and interference in their business if you don’t give them money directly as donations and jobs or indirectly hiring their “diversity trainers” 3-4x a year.

The problem is that their ratings feed into your local SEO and other business directories, so BLM and other bullies giving you bad reviews for being white or conservative DO hurt your business.
