President Trump’s cutting back on campaign commercials in some of the key Midwestern battlegrounds that helped him win the White House four years ago – and shifting resources to a bunch of crucial swing states further south.

The president’s re-election campaign has dropped roughly $2 million in ad reservations in Michigan and Wisconsin since last month, according to Advertising Analytics , Medium Buying, and Kantar Media’s Campaign Media Analysis Group , three leading ad tracking firms. Trump narrowly won the two states in 2016, breaking a quarter century long winning streak by Democrats.

WHAT THE NEW FOX NEWS POLL SHOWS IN THE BIDEN-TRUMP PRESIDENTIAL SHOWDOWN

The Trump campaign is also currently dark on local TV in Ohio and Iowa, two states he convincingly flipped from blue to red four years ago. And the re-election team is chopping approximately $5 million from its fall TV budget in Minnesota, a state that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton narrowly won in 2016 but that the president was targeting this year.

The Trump campaign’s moving its money south.

Pointing to what he called a “sun belt strategy,” Advertising Analytics vice president John Link told Fox News that “over the last month, the president’s moved $22 million out of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Ohio – and its added $19.8 million to the swing states of Florida, Georgia, Arizona, and North Carolina.”

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign is currently running ads in the Midwestern states where the Trump campaign is cutting back. And in recent weeks the former vice president’s team has boosted its ad buys in both Iowa and Ohio, which were not considered competitive states at the beginning of the 2020 cycle.

The move by the Trump campaign comes as the Biden campaign entered September with a massive $141 million cash on hand advantage over Trump. But the president’s re-election team still has millions of dollars reserved to purchase TV time in the Midwestern battlegrounds through the Nov. 3 election. But those reservations are not written in stone – and can be canceled during the remaining four weeks left before Election Day.

BIDEN ENTERS FINAL STRETCH WITH LARGE CASH ADVANTAGE OVER TRUMP

The Trump campaign – in defending its ad buying strategy – appeared to argue that the Biden campaign was relying too heavily on TV advertising.

“If overspending on TV ads determined the outcome of elections, Hillary Clinton would be president — but it’s cute that Joe Biden and his campaign think buying ads in these states makes up for years of Democrats viewing them as flyover country," Trump campaign deputy national press secretary Samantha Zager told Fox News. "Biden can try to buy votes, but President Trump and his campaign will continue earning them on the ground and on the airwaves — and come November, we’ll be celebrating victory while Biden binge watches his TV ads from his basement."

The Trump campaign dominated the ad wars from the start of the general election campaign in April through July. But since the beginning of August, the Biden campaign has outspent their rivals each week to run TV spots. It’s a closer contest when it comes to digital ads, with the Biden team slightly outspending the Trump campaign the past two months.

An average of the latest polling in Michigan and Wisconsin indicates Biden with a mid-single digit advantage over the president, and the former vice president leading by nearly 10 points in Minnesota. The latest average of polling in Ohio and Iowa indicate the two presidential nominees all knotted up.

I’m in North Carolina and I hardly hear or see any Trump ads. Meantime, Biden is wall-to-wall, even on right-leaning talk shows and stations.

Sometimes it seems like he doesn’t really want to win..

FYI, I compared current VBM returns to the predicted, modeled vote by TargetSmart: Actual VBM ballots returned, Dems lead Rs 51% to 30%. However, this “lead” is actually 51% to 38% when you “model” the voters as to whether they are likely Ds or Rs. This means that the early vote favors Trump, as it is older, whiter, and more conservative. Good news. We are in great shape in Iowa.

Having not had time to read thru all the preceding posts of this thread I can say that Biden is flooding the TV channels in NE Florida with ads. Like all of them they are pretty much lies about what he (Biden) has accomplished throughout his career, and some pretty vicious anti-Trump lies as well. The Trump campaign has been pretty much missing here and it’s high time the Trump campaign started fighting back against Biden’s lies.

I still don’t think that Biden has a snowballs chance or winning FL, but the Trump folks cannot take that for granted.

same successful strategy used in 2016, albeit now with more $$$

lock up the sun belt and southern states with early voting

then shift to the rust belt and barnstorm like crazy the last week (remember the midnight rally in MI?)

GOTV is strong in the rust belt (Sleepy Joe is trying to build a ground game in PA and MI to counter) - PA spending up $700K + DC $150K (touches extreme rural parts of PA)

before he got the china virus, Trump was planning to visit both AZ and FL

The ads are following the ground game. It is a focused effort with ads and rallies by Trump surrogates in key places in the state.

I think the reason for this is the House of Representatives. He can afford to push south for “coattail effect” because he has the Midwestern states locked up.

I said yesterday that there's a lot of delusion out there:

The left: "Biden's winning by 14 pointz or moar!!!"

Normal people (thinking wishfully): "No, Trump's actually winning, we just KNOW it!!! Or at least he's losing by less than 14!!!"

We've been assured all along that the polls except for blessed ones such as Trafalgar, IBD/TIPP and Rasmussen (oops) are complete bullshit, and the only way to know what the tea leaves REALLY say is to watch what the campaigns DO.

They have their own polling, not available to the public, and it's critically important that those polls be accurate because the campaign's actions depend on that data.

Well, so much for that theory. Now we have to find another mystical crystal ball to tell us the "truth" about what's going on.

Go over to the Trafalgar Group— their polls were the most accurate in 2016. Even they are getting a miserable response rate of < 2%. They show Trump slightly ahead in MI and WI and 3 points behind in PA. However, when you look at the internals, women are way, way over-represented, especially in PA. If that is corrected for, Trump has all three in the bag.

I’m in an area of TN that’s about 75% Republican. I see Biden ads non-stop. Seems like a waste of money for Biden - ain’t no way he’s winning TN.

Consider that, at this point, it just might be all about the Senate races. Put a stake in NC, help out McSally, etc.

Here in Wisconsin a local radio host summed it up. Biden is right now blanketing the rust belt with ads to get democrats to vote early. Trump is waiting till the last couple of weeks to get the GOP voters who tend to vote in person.

President Trump should be carrying all fifty states, and anything less than this says a lot about the high level of stupidity and the high level of ignorance that continues to exist throughout the U.S. and U.S. territories!

Ads in AZ could also reach Vegas. Plus, McSally needs bigger POTUS coattails to pull off a win. GA, NC, and FL may benefit from additional ads, as the coattails may flip a few House races as well.

I'm not sure how Perdue or Loeffler are doing in their campaigns, but preventing surprises to hold the Senate is imperative.

Besides, POTUS campaign is spending millions in online ads, which can reach every state.
