California authorities take down giant ‘TRUMP’ sign near highway… that was on private property

Today brings with it yet another “the First Amendment can be suspended in the name of ‘safety'” story, and it might not surprise you to know that it has something to do with California authorities removing a “TRUMP” sign:

Maybe the Trump supporter should have instead put the sign ON the highway and called it a protest:

Local authorities said that because the sign was on private property, it was just taken down but not removed:

Lauren Wonder, chief public information officer for Caltrans, told the Los Angeles Times that the sign was on private property.

For that reason, Wonder said, Caltrans workers “laid it down so it wasn’t a visual distraction” but did not completely remove the sign, which was noticed at about 7 a.m.

“This was a life and safety issue because there were concerns about distracted driving,” Wonder said.

This would make the Hollywood sign illegal too.

The owner should put it back up and obstruct CalTrans access...make THEM go to court.

A first amendment suit by the owner would not prevail until WELL into 2021, or 22.

Do you seriously think they would take down a Biden sign? It could be neon and they wouldn’t touch it.

The question is: was it there with owner consent?

I haven’t seen an answer one way or the other on that.

I recall them as a little kid in the 1950s travelling from Ontario,Canada to Disneyland.

They were fun to read as we passed by them.

When I was a little girl, we were driving from NC to Louisiana to visit my grandmother. I was in the back seat, looking out the back window and we were driving in the backwoods. We passed a billboard and on the back of the billboard was another billboard which was odd as it was a one way part of the highway. There was a naked woman, laying on her side, and it was an advertisement for some liquor, I think something ‘Velvet’, maybe Black Velvet? Back then, women didn’t drive so its was meant for the man driving to see it in the rearview mirror. It was the first time I had seen a naked woman and by the time I spoke up, we had rounded a curve.

There was a set of them outside Bluffton, O, back in the mid-60’s. Been awhile...

Typical behavior by liberal leftist dimocrat fascists. Was on private property. They despise Free Citizens and Freedom. Pathetic oafs.

A little late for this. California govt is failing.

Say it's a "peaceful protest" garnering 1stA protections.

Sounds like grounds for a law suit on infringement of free speech.

Perhaps but because of bad reporting we have no idea if the property owner put up the sign or was even aware of it.

but if it had been a giant greta thunberg sign, it would be considered a ‘hate crime’ to remove it

There are literally thousands of distractions that can be
seen from freeways. Are they doing to remove every
scenic view, every special business people want to point out,
every sporting arena, every highway sign that people take
their eyes off the road to read?

The Left is so stupid, it actually thinks their lies are
being believed.

It was distracting when it said “Hollywoodland,” but it’s okay now.

Advertisers would do just about anything to remain on
the mind of the people they advertise to.

Berma.Shave has been on my mind for 65 years due to that
little Berma.Shave jingle.

“This was a life and safety issue because there were concerns about distracted driving,” Wonder said.

Thousands of drivers missed seeing the sign as they were texting on their phones while driving.

That’s why billboards have never been allowed for advertising.

That and billboards are known for committing suicide by jumping in front of cars.
