Chinese virologist who fled to the US after claiming Coronavirus was made in a military lab says her mother has now been arrested by Beijing

A Chinese virologist who claims the coronavirus was cooked up in a military lab has revealed that Chinese authorities have arrested her mother.

Li-Meng Yan, who claims to be a former researcher at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, says the virus was built by merging the genetic material of two bat coronaviruses.

The news was first announced by Guo Wengui, a fugitive Chinese tycoon who is known for his criticism against the Communist Party, during a radio show this week.

Ms Yan confirmed her mother's reported arrest to US-based website The Epoch Times yesterday but did not provide any further details.

Yan, who fled to the US in April following her bombshell claim, said COVID-19 was 'man-made' and 'not from nature'.

Her Twitter account was taken down in mid-September after she accused China of intentionally manufacturing and releasing COVID-19.

In an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson, Yan claimed she was suspended because 'they don't want the people to know this truth'.

'I have evidence to show why they can do it, what they have done, how (they did it),' she told Fox News.

'The scientific world also keeps silent... works together with the Chinese Communist Party, they don't want people to know his truth. That's why I get suspended, I get suppressed, I am the target that Chinese Communist Party wants disappeared.'

Americans better WISE UP/ Key swamp demons were making fortunes when they allowed US companies in a number of industries including pharma, computer; and electrical as well metal fabrication components even bicycles relocate their factories in China . To the point where China was our sole supplier. The money the CCP has now comes from US .If we play our Chinese checkers right we can really turn things around for the better not only here but in China as well.Check out this recent posting in Free Republic.com which the MSM and social venues will spike;

> “whenever I see her I imagine a giant flashing sign screaming, “Crazy lady.””

That could be great insight.

As far back as months ago, I had already seen detailed investigative reports from more than one source showing the molecular structure of the virus being too convenient for infecting humans, making the virus unlikely to emerge spontaneously in nature.

But none of those reports could ever assert the virus came from a lab, let alone a particular lab, because to make such a claim, solid proof of a link between the virus and the alleged lab is needed. Despite her sensational claims, she has not produced any such proof that is critical to her claims (note that I personally believe it was an engineered virus by the CCP.)

Not only that, as far as I can tell, she brought no new information about the virus that we don’t already know.

Another thing is, she had been in Hong Kong the whole time (which makes one wonder how much she really knows about the Wuhan lab and the virus) and had never said or done anything damaging to the CCP up to that point, there shouldn’t be any urgent need for her to flee. Being from China, she should know what would likely happen to her mother. If she didn’t care enough about her mother to make arrangement for her (to go to HK, for example) before she hastily fled to the US for asylum, why should we have more sympathy for her mother than for other Chinese dissidents arrested by the CCP almost everyday?

Dr Fauci provided financial support to the Wuhan lab and Fauci’s daughter works for Twitter. Go figure.

Can you give an example of the kind of "solid proof" that you need that will satisfy you? We don't have a time machine to take us back to Wuhan and even if we had, the Chinese authorities will NEVER allow foreigners to get near the place, so the only thing we have are genetic clues and circumstantial evidence like NO bats being sold in the Wuhan Wet Market and cover-ups from the CCP where even the original doctors who wanted to tell the world that it was transmissible to humans were either silenced ( e.g. Dr. Li Wen Liang ) or disappeared ( Dr. Fang Bin ), among others.

Despite her sensational claims, she has not produced any such proof that is critical to her claims

Did you read the scientific paper that she published for ALL to read. It can be found in THIS LINK .

If you believe that this isn't at least partial proof, please critique the paper for us. Suffice it to say that she isn't afraid for the scientific community anywhere to read and critique her work. She wants everyone to read it. There exists a De Facto peer review if anyone bothers to read it and point out its flaws.

note that I personally believe it was an engineered virus by the CCP.

OK, you don't believe Dr. Yan, yet you believe exactly what she told the world -- that it was engineered. Maybe your reasons for believing are different from hers. Care to share them?

Another thing is, she had been in Hong Kong the whole time (which makes one wonder how much she really knows about the Wuhan lab and the virus)

Yan said that she was one of the first scientists in the world to study the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, after Leo Poon, her supervisor at the University of Hong Kong (a WHO reference lab), asked her to look into a cluster of SARS-like cases in Wuhan, in December 2019.

According to Fox News, Yan maintained an extensive network of medical professionals from mainland China, one of whom purportedly told Yan about human-to-human transmission of the novel disease on 31 December 2019 ( Chinese doctors in Wuhan were already telling the authorities that, Doctors like the departed, Li Wen Liang and the now disappeared, Fang Bin. There are also citizen journalists who have disappeared as well, one name stands out -- Chen Qiushi (sort of like the James O'Keefe of China). So,these are simply corroboration of her claims). According to Yan, she reported her findings about the virus multiple times to her superiors, including on 16 January, after which she says she was warned by her supervisor "to keep silent and be careful".

She steered two kinds of research on the "new pneumonia" in China in mid of December and early January and the second one in mid-January, and shared the results with her supervisor, who is a World Health Organisation (WHO) consultant.

She said she anticipated her supervisor to do the "right thing on behalf of the Chinese government and WHO" but to her surprise, she was told to "maintain silence or else she would be made to disappear", which the Virologist said was common sense among the Chinese.

Question: Does one have to be PHYSICALLY in Wuhan to discover what you think you know?

Put yourself in her position ( if her claims are true )... you know you have the truth about the virus, yet, you also know that your loved ones are in China. Will you simply shut up and let the situation die down? Or will you follow your conscience and tell the world what you believe you know and SACRIFICE your job, your family, and your reputation ( sure to be tarnished by China, the WHO and skeptics world-wide )?

As for arranging for her mother to leave China and go to HongKong, that's easier said than done. China was still in lockdown mode then and HK was limiting travel from the Mainland. Does one simply uproot oneself from one's home because one's daughter tells her to?

BTW, She is married and her husband is still in China ( I don't know if her father is still alive ).

- I have read a lot of material from various sources before I was convinced it was an engineered virus, long before I or anyone in the US even heard of her. That she also thinks it is an engineered virus has no bearing on what I think of anything else she has espoused.

- Ideally you do need to be physically in Wuhan to collect samples and do any serious investigation of the various sites, that’s why researchers want to go there. When that is not possible, they settle for studying the outbreak and the virus from a distance.

- The evidence required is not to satisfy me or any individual, it has to meet a certain level of confidence in the accepted scientific research practices. No reputable source has ever asserted the virus came from a lab because the bar is indeed very high; the most they would say is it is highly likely. That is proper because one cannot jump to conclusions and make sensational claims when the evidence is lacking or inadequate.

- If we never get the definitive evidence required, so be it. What we already know so far is enough to hold the CCP accountable for spreading the pandemic, if not for creating the virus.

- I have no plan to read her paper, just not interested. If she had evidence linking the virus to a specific lab, it is safe to say the information must have already been covered in the copious material already published on the subject, when all projects undertaken by all the labs under suspicion going back decades were carefully examined for clues, though it is possible she might have packaged things differently in her paper.

- To really know the truth of the genesis of this virus, one has to go way back beyond the outbreak in December 2019. The virus had to be created and ready to deploy well before then, which explains how the CCP already had a vaccine ready for testing I believe back in March 2020 (need to confirm). If she only got involved since last December, she was already very late to the party and definitely not in the loop.

- “she was told to “maintain silence or else she would be made to disappear””. Sorry I don’t believe it for a nanosecond, not to mention it was not in the initial version I read or heard from her (can’t remember). I doubt even Dr. Li WL was being treated to that kind of speech when he was reprimanded by the CCP goons. She was either lying outright or blatantly embellishing there, but it only serves to reinforce my impression of her of not being very honest, and makes everything else she says suspect.

- We will never know the true motivation why people do what they do, so all the talk about moral choices are of little use. And she could always have exposed the truth anonymously and safely if she wanted to, especially since she was in HK, with easy access to many information channels. So let me now present a totally different picture here largely based on my observations, though not saying any of it is true:

Obtaining legal status to live in the US is still the aspiration of many from China, especially the highly educated and well-off. It appears to me she is very intelligent, quickly saw the opportunity and jumped - apply for asylum on the flimsy excuse of being fearful for her life. Besides, no one knows anything about her relationship with her husband, and boy, what a bonus if she had been thinking about going her own way; and her goal is so important she couldn’t let concerns for the old folks to delay it or get in the way.

You are welcomed to disagree with any of the above, which is all I have to say about the Doctor.

Left out a small point:

Hong Kong was never closed to the mainlanders and quarantine measures were lax even during the height of the epidemic. If her family didn’t want to leave China even knowing the risk of staying, then they had made their decision and shouldn’t complain too much when the peril of staying materialized.

But it has. The fact that her conclusions are IN HARMONY with what you have read shows that she is not a kook, but has carefully looked at the evidence and came up with her conclusion.

And that's EXACTLY what Dr. Yan did. She said she has a network of connections with those in Wuhan to gather data to come up with her conclusion BECAUSE she was assigned to study the origins and possible spread of the virus.

Then I suggest you withhold your conclusions about her credibility. She might have come out with her conclusions INDEPENDENTLY and if you look at her paper, it is copiously REFERENCED to many other papers published in the past. She does not look to me like someone who would just make accusations without presenting any evidence. The fact that she OPENLY published a paper to be critiqued shows that she isn't afraid for her findings to be critiqued.

Well, that you don't believe her has no bearing of whether she is telling the truth or not. Unless you can show that she has an ulterior motive for doing what she did ( e.g. getting rich or famous, in which case, you might have a point), I find it hard to conclude that someone would sacrifice a good position in Hong Kong, in a very prestigious Asian research University with connections even to WHO in order to LIE. To conclude that she lied, forces me to also conclude that she is a glutton for punishment.

Why? Why would someone, with a PhD, a very highly educated woman working in a prestigious Asian University with a very well paid position in Hong Kong risk it all to come to the USA and stay in hiding ?

The benefits vs. the cost makes no sense.

What good would anonymously exposing it do? It could easily be dismissed as some kook spreading rumors on the chat rooms and the internet. Now, if someone who *IS* a researcher, a virologist, who has worked with WHO, who has contacts with the researchers in Wuhan came out with her testimony, that makes a difference.

I know that you are probably a cynic and do not believe that people anywhere in the world value doing what is morally right over comfort and safety, but that does not change the fact that evidence TAKEN IN TOTAL, does not seem to support someone who would perpetrate a scam.

Do you want me to come to your side of the aisle? Show me the advantages she gained from doing what she did. Show me how she will get rich because of this. Show me what prestigious and lucrative job in any American research institute would hire her and anger China. Is she doing this because she has a secret lover in the USA and wants to escape her husband to be with him?

Now contrast that with the life she is living now --- IN HIDING, IN DANGER, HER MOTHER IN JAIL, HER REPUTATION SMEARED ( she already expected this ) in her own country. Chicom agents probably hunting her to kill her.

There is no advantageous motive that I can see.

Given your strong support of Dr. Yan, I think I should tie up a few loose ends in my previous posts to set the record straight, and maybe you would start to see why people like me who had been reading about the virus long before she came on the scene are not impressed.

1. I only know her initial version of the events since I did not follow her after that. According to her, she was asked to work on the virus in December 2019, but at some point her superior told her not to pursue it any further while alluding to some red line, and she somehow felt threatened. That was about all she told us at the time about why she had to flee immediately.

2. Her boss actually has the authority to tell her what to work on; even if she questioned the motive, I don’t see how it became a threat to her life especially since she never tried to defy his order. What she said just didn’t make sense, though it appears she had straightened and embellished her story since. (Incidentally, I read an unrelated and unconfirmed report about some questionable characters in the top management of the lab at HKU, but that is another story).

3. That she hardly knew much about the covid19 virus both before and after Dec 2019 really shows. Everything she had told us about the outbreak are secondhand info and she admits those were from her contacts, like the virus was transmissible, etc. Whether she really had contacts feeding her information or she just rehashed what was already public knowledge, we don’t need to sort out when the bottom line is, she has not told us anything new. She seems to think people knew nothing about the virus and she was the first person to tell us anything about it.

4. Multiple sources had already reported extensively on the unusual structure of the virus, that’s why I’m not interested in another such report from a Johnny-come-lately. What we all want to see is evidence of a smoking gun and likely only an insider who defects could provide. But as I said, it’s okay because spreading an epidemic is a serious crime while engineering a lethal virus is not.

5. The CCP Military was the first to test a vaccine very early on (March 2020?) and there was a propaganda video of a female General getting inoculated with the vaccine. It is logical to think the military lab had created the virus, but there is no proof and I doubt she has the connections to be privy to what’s going on in that lab. Even if she is one of the first or even the very first person in all of China to study coronaviruses, it is still a far cry from studying the specific Covid19 virus.

6. When I said exposing the truth anonymously, I was not talking about going to sites like Reddit or some such, but rather, writing confidential letters to, say, the US government (and start with the US Consulate in HK, for example) telling them what she has got and promising to reveal her identity when the time is right. Her situation is no different from what a whistleblower in any other field would have to face.

7. What does she gain? She will gain legal status to stay in the US, a chance to get far away from her old life in China (again, not saying it is true, just a possibility), and her 15 minutes of fame in the media. She obviously decided it was worth it and wasted no time putting it into action - any waiting or delay could undermine her claim of being in danger. Her mother, who could be a CCP member for all we know, is ironically not in real danger given a high profile case like this; and I wouldn’t worry too much about the condition she now finds herself in when it is not permanent.

I looked at your response and it seems to me that there are a few things we agree on and a few things we disagree on. The disagreement will have to remain just that — disagreements because it depends on how we interpret the evidence at hand and our personal psychological makeup. Some of us are more prone to skepticism and cynicism than others. Pending more evidence, we each have to be who we are.

Firstly the agreements: We AGREE that the virus did not occur naturally nor did it jump from bats to humans naturally.

We agree that it was man-made in the lab.

Dr. Yan insists that the virus was DELIBERATELY engineered and the project DELIBERATELY started, not as a means to find cures, but to release it as a bioweapon.

I don’t know if she is in a position to tell us what the motives of the scientists who engineered the virus are — to find a cure or create a weapon.

Hong Kong has in the last year, became a more rigid, controlled place since the CCP started to impose their iron grip on the city. It is useless and futile to try to reason with their executive Carrie Lam. She is but a puppet of her masters in Beijing. Such attitude, in my opinion, and in discussing this with friends who actually work with the prestigious Hong Kong University has trickled down to administrators of the university as well. It is not a stretch to imagine that she is telling the truth when she said she shared her findings with her superiors and they told her to stay silent. You use the phrase “appears to embellish” without providing information as to why this is so.

That she got her information second hand does not in any way prove that she is lying. You said that that it was “already public knowledge”.... REALLY? What was widely disseminated to the world by China and WHO ( after they could not cover up the fact of human transmissibility ) is that it was a naturally occurring animal to human transmission which occurred first in the Wuhan Wet Market. That the lab created theory is “public” knowledge is only public to those scientists who really studied the genetic makeup of the virus. Even today there are many scientist here in the USA ( and I’d include the CDC ) who tellus that it is NOT a lab created virus. I can show you articles after articles that are still in existence to this effect.

So NO. It is NOT public knowledge. Dr. Yan’s coming out as someone from within China only helped to bolster the lab created argument. This is no score against her credibility.

She has endeavored to publish TWO PAPERS ( albeit not peer reviewed but should be ) as to WHY the virus is not naturally occurring, but man made. Did she plagiarize anyone? Are there flaws in her science? These should be dealt with on a purely scientific basis. That she has endeavored to present her work based on SCIENTIFIC arguments does not tell us that she is a scam artist.

IF ( and that is a big IF ), her paper has been thoroughly vetted by honest scientists and found to have flaws, then there is a point to be made that she has a problem, but not until.

That you doubt she has the connections to be privy to what’s going on in that lab, is simply you telling us that you are a skeptic. It has no bearing on whether she had contacts in the lab or not. Either her testimony is true or not. Whether one believes her ( as I at this point, do ) or not ( you ), is dependent, as I said, one’s personal “trust” propensity.

Finally, that her motive is to gain legal status to stay in the US, a chance to get far away from her old life in China has to be weighed and compared with the kind of life she was living in HONG KONG ( despite China’s iron grip, a still relatively free city ). She is an INTELLECTUAL with a good position in one of Asia’s prestigious universities, not your ordinary run of the mill illegal immigrant from Latin America or a refugee from the Middle East. Simply gaining legal status in the USA compared to the LOSS she would incur by doing what she did, does not pass ( for me at least ), the cost/benefit test.

As I said, I like more proof that she is doing this for selfish reasons. Maybe eventually we will find out that the US Intelligence “paid” her to come out with a story like this to discredit the CCP. Maybe wealthy Chinese billionaires (many who are considered outlaws by the CCP ) “paid” her to come out with this story to discredit the CCP. That she was helped by the billionaire renegade Guo Wen Guei ( AKA Miles Guo ) is a better explanation.

This might well be true. But we need more evidence to prove the payout. We’ll each have to stand by what we currently believe and be flexible about it as events might prove either one of us right or wrong.
