> “whenever I see her I imagine a giant flashing sign screaming, “Crazy lady.””

That could be great insight.

As far back as months ago, I had already seen detailed investigative reports from more than one source showing the molecular structure of the virus being too convenient for infecting humans, making the virus unlikely to emerge spontaneously in nature.

But none of those reports could ever assert the virus came from a lab, let alone a particular lab, because to make such a claim, solid proof of a link between the virus and the alleged lab is needed. Despite her sensational claims, she has not produced any such proof that is critical to her claims (note that I personally believe it was an engineered virus by the CCP.)

Not only that, as far as I can tell, she brought no new information about the virus that we don’t already know.

Another thing is, she had been in Hong Kong the whole time (which makes one wonder how much she really knows about the Wuhan lab and the virus) and had never said or done anything damaging to the CCP up to that point, there shouldn’t be any urgent need for her to flee. Being from China, she should know what would likely happen to her mother. If she didn’t care enough about her mother to make arrangement for her (to go to HK, for example) before she hastily fled to the US for asylum, why should we have more sympathy for her mother than for other Chinese dissidents arrested by the CCP almost everyday?

Can you give an example of the kind of "solid proof" that you need that will satisfy you? We don't have a time machine to take us back to Wuhan and even if we had, the Chinese authorities will NEVER allow foreigners to get near the place, so the only thing we have are genetic clues and circumstantial evidence like NO bats being sold in the Wuhan Wet Market and cover-ups from the CCP where even the original doctors who wanted to tell the world that it was transmissible to humans were either silenced ( e.g. Dr. Li Wen Liang ) or disappeared ( Dr. Fang Bin ), among others.

Despite her sensational claims, she has not produced any such proof that is critical to her claims

Did you read the scientific paper that she published for ALL to read. It can be found in THIS LINK .

If you believe that this isn't at least partial proof, please critique the paper for us. Suffice it to say that she isn't afraid for the scientific community anywhere to read and critique her work. She wants everyone to read it. There exists a De Facto peer review if anyone bothers to read it and point out its flaws.

note that I personally believe it was an engineered virus by the CCP.

OK, you don't believe Dr. Yan, yet you believe exactly what she told the world -- that it was engineered. Maybe your reasons for believing are different from hers. Care to share them?

Another thing is, she had been in Hong Kong the whole time (which makes one wonder how much she really knows about the Wuhan lab and the virus)

Yan said that she was one of the first scientists in the world to study the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, after Leo Poon, her supervisor at the University of Hong Kong (a WHO reference lab), asked her to look into a cluster of SARS-like cases in Wuhan, in December 2019.

According to Fox News, Yan maintained an extensive network of medical professionals from mainland China, one of whom purportedly told Yan about human-to-human transmission of the novel disease on 31 December 2019 ( Chinese doctors in Wuhan were already telling the authorities that, Doctors like the departed, Li Wen Liang and the now disappeared, Fang Bin. There are also citizen journalists who have disappeared as well, one name stands out -- Chen Qiushi (sort of like the James O'Keefe of China). So,these are simply corroboration of her claims). According to Yan, she reported her findings about the virus multiple times to her superiors, including on 16 January, after which she says she was warned by her supervisor "to keep silent and be careful".

She steered two kinds of research on the "new pneumonia" in China in mid of December and early January and the second one in mid-January, and shared the results with her supervisor, who is a World Health Organisation (WHO) consultant.

She said she anticipated her supervisor to do the "right thing on behalf of the Chinese government and WHO" but to her surprise, she was told to "maintain silence or else she would be made to disappear", which the Virologist said was common sense among the Chinese.

Question: Does one have to be PHYSICALLY in Wuhan to discover what you think you know?

Put yourself in her position ( if her claims are true )... you know you have the truth about the virus, yet, you also know that your loved ones are in China. Will you simply shut up and let the situation die down? Or will you follow your conscience and tell the world what you believe you know and SACRIFICE your job, your family, and your reputation ( sure to be tarnished by China, the WHO and skeptics world-wide )?

As for arranging for her mother to leave China and go to HongKong, that's easier said than done. China was still in lockdown mode then and HK was limiting travel from the Mainland. Does one simply uproot oneself from one's home because one's daughter tells her to?

BTW, She is married and her husband is still in China ( I don't know if her father is still alive ).
