New York City to Close Schools (and "non-essential businesses) in Some Neighborhoods Due to Rising Covid Cases. The neighborhoods have been above a 3% positivity rate for seven straight days

New York City on Wednesday will close public schools and nonessential businesses in parts of Brooklyn and Queens that have registered a week-long spike in coronavirus cases, as the city works to stop an increase in the virus after keeping cases down all summer.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said during a news conference Sunday that all schools and nonessential business in neighborhoods within nine ZIP Codes would close beginning Wednesday.

The neighborhoods are Far Rockaway, Edgemere, Kew Gardens, Kew Gardens Hills and Pomonok in Queens, and Borough Park, Gravesend, Homecrest, Midwood, Bensonhurst, Mapleton, Flatlands, Midwood, Gerritsen Beach, Homecrest and Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn.

They have logged an increase in positivity rate of Covid-19 over the past few weeks, topping a 3% rate for seven straight days, which prompted the increased enforcement.

Mr. de Blasio, a Democrat, said the restrictions are painful but necessary to keep cases from spreading. The plan needs the approval from the state to go forward.

Full article. If I live in one of those neighborhoods and want to buy something De Blasio deems "non-essential", I may take the subway to a part of NYC that isn't locked down to buy what I want. That spreads covid more.

All right fellow FReepers. . . here is my question.

I don't care about ‘cases’. . . For the last 15, 30, 45 or 60 days, tell me how many people have been sent to the (1) hospital for treatment for COVID as the primary problem, (2) how many are then sent to the ICU and (3) finally how many are dying primarily of COVID?

No one wants to answer because the answer would blow the lid off this sham.

The province in Ontario is stupidly looking at more restrictions becUse have risen to over 500 per day for the past week or so, a rate as high as April-May. The difference is the death rate is negligible. 1 or 2 per day. Cases are meaningless.

Will the people rise up and take this idiot down? The rioters and looters were given free reign and support by this fool, you, your business to put food on the table, educate your kids and your livelihood is held hostage by this stooge and the drek that comb the city streets

Sorry to hear but not surprised. Live in Detroit across from Windsor. I know a man that lives in suburban area who is separated from wife who went back to Canada but his girls saw him regularly. A lot. He goes to my church. They were with their mother when all this started and he has not seen them for months. This is all despicable.

These idiots we call leaders would do well to hear the story of King Canute and the tide.

The flu and common colds spread among us every year and millions get it, but, most just adapt and we move along.

What the Hell is so special about CRAZY-19 other than these idiots panicked and don’t know how to climb down.

NYC is locked down. Masks are mandatory. Oddly, the infection rate doesn’t seem to care.

The positive test data is a fearmongering scam without a breakdown between no symptoms, mild symptoms, more serious symptoms but no hospitalizations, hospitalization, ICU treatment, and death.

All that has to be done to keep the positive rate above 3% is to add a couple more oversample loops to the testing procedure.

Many of these neighborhoods, Bensonhurst, Gravesend, etc., are conservative. Coincidence?

I don’t care about 3% CASE rate, either.

Good God, does this mean we’re in lock-down and masks forever? Because I’m SURE the flu and colds have often more than 3% “positivity”!

Until they can show that people are dropping like flies, I’m not convinced all this HYSTERIA is worth it. Sorry, but 200k out of 330MIL doesn’t quite say that.

Who even trusts the communists in NYC to report accurate stats? This is being done purposely to defeat Trump and scare the country.

To my American and German friends here in Berlin when I point out that in the US of A on average every DAY 7000 people die. That 24/7365 then the light goes on.

Even if this is 200,000 real CRAZY-19 only deaths then it is just a bad flu season. When Obama was around the swine flu infected over 60 million but no one was breathlessly talking/reporting about the “cases”.

I think you mean hold your “peace”-as in do something, or shut up. I don’t think that people in NYC are able to own a “piece”/firearm legally..

You're right of course. Is anyone sick? Any sick enough for a hospital?

You know, of course, that locking healthy people away and shutting down businesses and schools doesn't make the virus "go away". It's still there in the absence of an effective vaccine or widespread immunity ... waiting to pick up where it left off when businesses reopen and people are "allowed" by politicians to go about their lives. It's not a "new wave" or a "spike" ... it's just the virus doing what a virus does ... run its course no matter what we do short of a vaccine. Idiots all!!
