Surge in gun sales set to break record: 'They're buying everything'
Wash Times ^ | Sept 27, 2020 | David Sherfinski

Pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns are flying off the shelves this year, with gun shops reporting huge demand for models geared toward self-defense.

The run on guns coincides with the coronavirus crisis and deadly riots that have put Americans on guard.

Nearly 26 million background checks were run through the FBI’s national instant check system through August, and this month’s totals could push the numbers past the record 28.3 million checks from all of 2019.

“They’re buying everything,” said Steve Clark, who owns Clark Brothers Gun Shop in Fauquier County, Virginia.

Some of his customers are opting for less popular firearms, figuring it will be easier to find ammunition for those models amid reports of ammo shortages among some retailers.

“It’s across the board — it’s everything,” he said. “You can’t get near enough shotguns because people are looking for those for house defense.”

Did a quick survey of a bunch of online dealers. Out of stock on virtually everything.

“They’re buying everything”. Just try to buy a M72 Law rocket. You can’t get them.

With a Biden win . . .gun confiscation will probably be top priority.

Oh, man, there's nothing left out there online. It's a desert. And if you can find something, it's on backorder and/or they're charging a premium for it.

I got a new variable scope, still in the box. Don’t need it because everything else has flip-up and holographic sights, and I don’t know if the rings are a good match for my Mosin-Nagant. Prolly not. Would look sweet, though.

Can anyone explain why there is such a backlog and the manufacturers haven’t stepped up production? Been looking for a new Ruger or S&W AR and they have been no where to be found for months. Any ideas where to find one?

There's plenty out there online. This gun goes between in-stock and out-of-stock every few days, and the price isn't unreasonable. Gunbroker is awash in lever and pump-actions, but prices are two to three times their pre-panic prices.

I watched auctions for Remington 870 police shotguns close at $1,050 which is insane.

Part of it is new buyers, and that's a good thing.

Another part, I strongly suspect, are hoarders scooping up everything their credit cards can absorb.

I'm a true believer in having a nice collection of firearms and a healthy supply of ammo, so you can still go to the range during supply draughts.

That said, when people try to stockpile firearms and ammo far, far beyond what's a reasonable collection, then those peeps just might not win a popularity contest at the LGS or the range.

Guns and ammo appear to be the new TP and hand sanitizer.

Just received an Inland .30 Carbine (warbaby) and I found .45 ACP ammo from Midway (limit 10 boxes) but, the casings are nickel plated which is not what was advertised. Still, after reading about nickel plated casings, I don't think they will cause a problem in my 1911. I thought I hit the mother lode when I found them and they were sold out in about 20 minutes.

Overall though, it's dried up.
