FAUCI scolds Rand Paul during tense exchange at hearing: "You've misconstrued that, senator"

A seemingly irritated Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, scolded Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) at a congressional hearing on Wednesday after the senator claimed that COVID-19 cases might not be rising in New York because of herd immunity.

Fauci, the country's top infectious disease doctor, told Paul he was wrong to make the suggestion, and he said Paul had also been wrong in other public comments about the concept of herd immunity.

"No, you've misconstrued that, senator, and you've done that repeatedly in the past," Fauci said.

Fauci also appeared to single out Paul for criticism over comments about the coronavirus, which as of this week has killed more than 200,000 people in the United States.

"If you believe 22% is herd immunity, I believe you're alone in that," Fauci told Paul during the hearing, referring to the number of New Yorkers thought to have had COVID-19.

The exchange took place during a Senate Health Committee hearing where Fauci and others are testifying about the pandemic.

Paul, who has frequently criticized lockdowns aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus while questioning their effectiveness, asked Fauci if he had second thoughts over his support for such measures given statistics in other countries.

He claimed mitigation measures like closing movie theaters, bars and limiting restaurant capacity had no impact, because the New York Tri-State area had the highest coronavirus death rate in the country.

"It's important that we the people not simply acquiesce to authoritarian mandates on our behavior without first making the Nanny State prove their hypothesis," Paul said. "What we do know is that New York and New Jersey and Connecticut and Rhode Island still allowed the highest death rates in the world."

Fauci said New York got hit "pretty badly" but the state has managed to bring its positivity down to about 1 percent because New Yorkers have been following recommendations like wearing masks, keeping physical distance, and staying outdoors more than indoors.

When Paul floated the theory that New Yorkers have now developed enough immunity that they are no longer at risk, Fauci appeared irritated and said the senator was completely off base.

"I challenge that, senator," Fauci said, before asking for more time to finish his response "because this happens with Senator Rand all the time."

"You are not listening to what the director of the CDC said, that in New York [the infection rate is] about 22 percent. If you believe 22 percent is herd immunity, I believe you're alone in that," Fauci said.

“He has blood on his hands...BIG TIME.”

What he has done recently may be the least Fauci’s Crimes Against Humanity.

His coverup of the vaccine retrovirus contamination puts him in league with the likes of Stalin and Hitler in terms of the human suffering he has caused.

Paul is right. The lockdowns haven’t helped. He doesn’t criticize the nursing home policies of liberal states or the riots.

Not every person is equal, in the effect they have on herd immunity.

If a person is retired and largely sty at home, they have much less of an impact on the replication rate of a virus, than someone who physical interacts with hundreds of people each day, at a cash register or in food service.

Once a virus has burned through those high contact people, its growth rate may decline much more quickly that another particular virus (that spreads differently) might.

Based on actual experience, where COVID-19 has run through populations, after 10-20% of the population has had it (dis-proportionally the high-contact people), the transmission/replication rate drops below epidemic levels.

One thing that I have not seen discussed is by how much this number exceeds the death rate for both overall population and specific demographics. We do know that “killed by” and “died with” have been indistinguishable in news reports.

Faucci is a partisan who has been all over the map when it comes to what should and shouldn’t be done. His statements seem more and more political as we come to the end of this election year. I do not trust anything he says unless backed up by a non-partisan scientist.

“Sweden documented HIT at either 14% IIRC. It is probably worth noting HIT stands for herd immunity threshold.”

There is more here: http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3886898/posts

Essentially, a lot of people already have cross-immunity to this COVID-19 virus, from exposure to similar virues (like the common cold).

Also, the small percentage of the population that is in high contact with many people every day, have much more of impact, than those with few contacts. Unrestrained, this virus gets around to those people in a couple of months, and then transmission drops off.

In practice, after 10-20% of the population gets COVID-19, the epidemic has crested, and naturally drops off.

Paul is an Ophthalmologist and was seeing patients before he gained his Senate seat. Fauci hasn’t seen patients in decades as he has been a Research MD. Fauci should be questioned on every utterance about what people should do.

Completely agree. I think he’s a fraud, personally.
