President Trump said he would nominate a Supreme Court pick on Friday or Saturday and has five women under consideration to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as Senate Republicans lined up behind him and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), rejecting Democrats calls to let the winner of the presidential election make the pick.
Mr. Trump maintained that the replacement of Justice Ginsburg, who died Friday of metastatic pancreatic cancer at the age of 87, should happen swiftly. We won the election and elections have consequences, he said Monday morning on Fox News. We have plenty of time.
The presidents list has been narrowed to two leading candidates, according to people familiar with the matter: federal appellate judges Amy Coney Barrett of the Seventh Circuit, in Chicago, and Barbara Lagoa of the 11th Circuit, in Atlanta.
The president said he has three other people to choose from, though declined to name them. He said he was looking for someone who is young and could serve on the court for a long time. Were looking for a good person.
Judge Barrett, 48 years old, was confirmed to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in October 2017 in a 55-43 vote. She is popular among social conservatives and was a finalist for the post in 2018 when Mr. Trump chose Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Judge Lagoa, 52, previously served as the first Hispanic woman on Floridas high court.
More than 20 Senate Republicans said over the weekend that they back moving immediately to fill the vacancy, and many are expected to follow suit as the week gets under way. Two Republican senatorsSens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaskabroke ranks this weekend, saying they oppose action on a nomination before the presidential election.

Romney now has the opportunity to actually show support for a woman, not just show his binders.
A rabid pro-abort leftist replaced by a young, decent conservative is a win in my book. I doubt we’ll get stuck with a Souter. I’m sure she’ll be well vetted. Souter was pretty much an unknown and a big mistake. They’re not going to make that mistake again. I have faith in the president and his team.
bs then they will just drag that out for months.
Amen!
he already had a list prior to ginsburgs death, these have all been vetted. Get it done and done quickly while we can.
AMEN!
What’s the situation on MacArthur these days?
Too bad Janice Rogers Brown is in her 70s...she’d be a top-notch justice. And it would be racist for the left to hate on her.
Give that man the wisdom of Solomon in the decisions he makes in the upcoming weeks.
Protect him from the rabid attacks of the enemy and in Your mercy, give us another four years of his leadership for our nation.
And please, turn this nation back to you.
Amen
Amy Comey Barrett appears to be the best candidate and one who was already confirmed not too long ago.
The left cannot help themselves and they will attack her viciously based on her Catholic faith. There are lots of Catholic voters who trend democrat that will not appreciate the attacks. The bonus? They are in mostly blue areas of the country. There are many vulnerable districts where the democrats cannot afford to lose any portion of the Catholic vote. Kamala cannot help herself so it might also be a drag on the top of their ticket.
ACB’s voting record and philosophy is promising if she does not drink the swamp gas.
Opposed Gun Safety: Ms. Grant worked on a brief in the case Friedman v. City of Highland Park, Illinois,[28] in which she challenged a local ban on AR-15 assault weapons the type of weapon that has been used in several school shootings in recent years, including Parkland, Florida in which 17 people were killed. The Seventh Circuit upheld the ban, and Ms. Grant asked the Supreme Court to overturn that decision because the state of Georgia believes that nearly any restriction on gun possession is a violation of the Second Amendment. The Supreme Court rejected her argument.
Which is precisely why we need someone like her ON the USSC.
And labeling it "gun safety" is disingenuous; gun safety is having one when you need it and only using it appropriately.
Exactly, why not Wednesday. One call, hey are you up for this? If no move on. Couple calls later done and make announcement.
Just wondering...
is there a black conservative female on the list?
Then watch the REAL racism ooze out of the democrat party hacks.... lol
I second your prayer, amen.
I spit out my coffee. Thanks.
Why not today?
The people on the list have some considering to do; he can’t just throw a name on to the Senate floor. All on the list probably have families and friends who will all be dragged through the mud to see what sticks.
However, we do have to deal with something coming up Saturday.
On Saturday, there is going to be a Global Day of Repentance and Prayer, with a prayer march in DC. The next day, according to the Jewish calendar is Yom HaKippurim, which most know as Yom Kippur, the 'Day of Atonements'. Jews (and Gentiles following Jewish tradition) fast and pray from sundown this Saturday until sundown this Sunday.
It would make sense that Trump make the call on Friday. And although I am willing to wait for his choice, trusting that he knows what he's doing, I still wish he'd do it today or tomorrow. It could very well be that his staff is doing final checks so we don't get a surprise from whoever he nominates.
