What you need to know about Barbara Lagoa

President Donald Trump is closely considering two conservative women to fill Ruth Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court.

According to people familiar with the process, one of those potential picks is Barbara Lagoa, a seasoned Florida judge with Cuban roots.

Here’s what you need to know about Lagoa: A trailblazer for women and Latinos

A Florida native, Lagoa was the first Hispanic woman to serve on the Florida Supreme Court. If nominated to the nation’s high court by Trump and confirmed by the Senate, she would be the second Latino justice to ever serve. Current Justice Sonia Sotomayor became the first when she was nominated by former President Barack Obama.

If nominated and confirmed, Lagoa would be the fifth woman to serve on the Supreme Court. She's been vetted

Trump nominated Lagoa to serve on 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2019. She was confirmed by the Senate in a bipartisan vote, which could help ease her path to the court if she’s selected by the president again. She could serve for a long while

At 52, Lagoa would be the youngest justice on the Supreme Court, just a few months behind one of Trump’s other nominees, Neil Gorsuch. A lifetime appointment to the court would allow her to serve for decades to come. A deep legal background

After graduating from Columbia Law School, Lagoa worked as a pro bono lawyer for Elian Gonzalez’s family and later as a federal prosecutor. Lagoa then spent more than a decade as a judge on a Florida appeals court before being picked by Gov. Ron DeSantis to serve on the state’s supreme court.

"She has been the essence of what a judge should be,” DeSantis said when he nominated her.

Lagoa is married to Paul C. Huck, an attorney. They have three daughters.

I think Lagoa is safer in terms of actually getting confirmed.

ACB, may have to wait until Trump’s next term. But he’s got to win this one.

I didn’t offer an opinion on the subject in that post. As far as I know, the nominee merely only needs one more vote than the nays in order to be seated. Doesn’t have to be 50/51.

Not for the other side, it isn’t.

We need originalists with backbone.

What are you talking about?
Weird.
Your response has nothing to do with what I said, nor did you answer my question.

Working without a fee to save a child from the ravages of Communism is a principled and correct stand, meaning that she likely understands American principles and the dangers of the kind of authoritarian socialism the left would impose on us.

I certainly agree, and it was not my intention to post anything meant to dispute that.

That’s true.

I forgot about that.

Dems have no shame.

Lagoa worked as a pro bono lawyer for Elian Gonzalez’s family

That is an excellent recommendation!

My question “how so?” was in reference to your statement that she worked pro bono for Elian Gonzalez’s family. That’s no “big deal” recommendation at all in my view. You believe it is? More power to ya!

ALL I CARE at this point is that whoever the nominee is among the 5 short list Trump has in his pocket, IS THAT SHE HAS 50+ VOTES in senate.

Because there is NO TIME FOR A DO_OVER with an alternate second choice if first choice fails confirmation.

I much rather have any 1 of 5 on Trump’s list than anyone on Biden’s list. Biden has a chance to win on November 30th (yes, democrat ballot votes will be found from all over the place until Nov 30th in some states).

So do I-and I’ve thought for a few years that eventually it is going to happen because people are beyond pissed off and it is the only way to keep our constitutional republic, short of a civil war and a loss of even more lives-let the liberals have their socialist blue states and we’ll keep our red ones with liberty, a strong military and individual rights-peaceful separation-like a non-contested divorce-right now, there are too many folks who are horrified at that idea-they’d rather wring their hands, cry about loosing rights, etc-although that seems to just be prolonging the time until the split-I don’t know what they are afraid of unless they have their snout in the federal trough...

I think it is inevitable that it will happen-I hope I am alive to be part of that...

John Roberts ALREADY HAS, so what is your point exactly because arguing for political expediency is on the level of a Harris pick from a traditional Republican standpoint in a lot of nominees.

Hahahahaha non sequitor of highest level by you.

John Roberts was nominated by which president? Hint...a globalist compassionate conservative.

Trump is the smartest president I have seen (I burned 80 candles this year) and therefore his pick will be better than Roberts by orders of magnitude.

More important point is the clock runs out if 1st nominee fails confirmation.

Biden nominee will finish the job Obama started. With millions of unsolicited ballots floating in the mail system Biden has a chance to win.

I used to think it was only a dream!

Just split the country in 2. Liberals get one side, conservatives the other.
