Former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton accused President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) of having a destructive lust for power on Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
While discussing a nominee to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Clinton said, “I was able to watch your previous interviews with Senators Klobuchar and Barrasso, and Senator Barrasso is doing an epic job trying to defend the indefensible. The system has been broken for quite a while, but clearly, the decision that Mitch McConnell made back in 2016 in the midst of that presidential election, but at a much earlier time when Justice Scalia unexpectedly passed away, should be the standard now. They talk about we had other standards before, well, they made a new precedent and the new presidential which they defended incredibly passionately was to wait for the next president, whoever that is, to make the nomination, but as you clearly heard, that is not what they are intending, and it’s another blow to our institutions.”
She added, “You know, what’s happening in our country is incredibly dangerous. Our institutions are being basically undermined by the lust for power, power for personal gain in the case of the president or power for institutional gain in the case of Mitch McConnell, at the cost of ensuring that our institutions withstand whatever the political wins might be. But they made this decision if 2016, and they held to account for it.”

The ‘institutions’ about which you speak are those entities from which you have derived power:
Elitist liberal/leftist universities. Contrary to your self-serving beliefs about THESE institutions, they are NOT nurseries for great thinkers and leaders. They have become bastions of group think, and are too often run by those too clueless to know that they are clueless. Besides, after attending one of these ‘institutions’ you flunked the DC Bar exam. So much for ‘elite’.
Government. Let's face it Hillary. Government is hardly the ultimate home of ‘the brightest and the best’ - although narcissists like you have used government as a way to delude yourselves into thinking that you are the special saviors of the world. The reality is that government is full of incompetent people with huge egos and not enough talent to justify those egos.That an outsider with no political experience and no law degree became President, beat you, and then performed much more substantively and successfully as a President that the vast majority of those career politicians who came before him makes the case for how pathetic you and your fellow travelers actually are - don't you think?
The courts and our current legal system. Although you tried to dictate policy to medical professionals, the reality is that Americans are at the mercy of legal system that can't guarantee them justice - unless they have the resources to pay for it. Is this another ‘sacred’ institution that you think Trump is harming? What have you ever done to make legal representation and justice accessible to everyone? How many people can afford the hourly rate for the most experienced attorneys?
