Lady Gaga says every American from birth drinks "the poison that is white supremacy."
The "Rain on Me" singer talked about systemic racism and celebrity activism in an interview with Billboard for its latest issue, released Thursday.
"I am in the process of learning and unlearning things I’ve been taught my whole life," the 34-year-old entertainer, who was born Stefani Germanotta, told the magazine.
“When you’re born in this country, we all drink the poison that is white supremacy,” the New York native said. "Social justice is not just a literacy, it’s a lifestyle."
“What do I think about [posting] a black square? I think everybody has a different feeling about a black square," Gaga said, referring to the digital initiative called Blackout Tuesday that aimed to amplify Black voices.
"Do I think there’s such a thing as performative activism? Yes. Do I think there’s been true activism that’s been very important and needed? Yes. Do I believe Black lives matter? Yes," the performer continued. "Do I believe this is going to get louder? Yes. Do I believe it should? Yes.”

I grew up in West Texas. Oddly back in the sixties blacks were few there as is today. The racial divide was between Mexicans and Anglos. That divide was real and ugly. That racial divide is over.
Many of us of “white boys” married lovely Mexican ladies as did I. This crap is over in Texas. It should also be noted that our very white governor of Texas is married to a lovely Mexican lady, his wife.
I love Texas and the heritage of both Texas and Mexico.
