From what I've been reading parents want their kids back in school but teachers are blocking school openings.

Remember when all these blow-hard teacher union types kept demanding raises and ever skyrocketing referendums, “for the children”?

Yeah, just as we knew, for the children really was just liberal speak “fork over the money, or we will shame you for hating children. How typical and a means of leverage exploited over and over again.

So school teachers refuse to teach in classrooms because they’re afraid of the coronavirus? Meanwhile, thousands of people work in grocery stores and do other essential work every day. How’s that for dedication?

Teachers are getting paid whether they work or not and they resent having to work when not working is an option. My wife- retired school teacher- says it is the Unions but I have heard from a number of teachers that they don’t want to go back so long as there is a “reason” not to go back and so long as the get their pay.

There is a company (or likely several companies) that are offering to teach public school students on-line for $1800/semester. They will teach, grade ‘papers’, administer tests, and assign grades. I only know because my local school district was looking at their services should kids not show up for school. But some schools are opting for it. Teachers won’t like it because they will become, as the Brits say, redundant.

I imagine this could be a gold mine these companies.

At least these New York parents are offered a choice between remote or in person or hybrid.

Millions of Californian parents are offered no choice—remote only, indefinitely. No end game in sight or offered.

This is one of the wealthier school districts in the Western NY area, and a suburb of Buffalo. Buffalo is home to Buffalo State College, a school that churns out education majors by the hundreds each year. Many of these graduates go elsewhere because the local teaching jobs (including and especially in Williamsville) are locked down by union types. If some of these teachers don't want to teach, I'm sure that some of these younger grads would be happy to take their jobs. Mind you, I'm not a fan of the education industry, anyway, so I could care less what happens to any of these Leftist fools.

100 resignations - that could be a good move. Some of those lefty teachers need to be replaced.

Hire degreed veterans, and let them teach while getting teachers credentials with full pay because they are veterans.

Stop paying the clowns and give the money per student to the parents to find private schools or charter schools.

I’m with the teachers on this one.

You can’t have governors and mayors sending people to their deaths in nursing homes, and keeping businesses shut down all over the country in “Day 178 of Two Weeks to Flatten the Curve” ... and then expect anyone with an IQ over 40 to take their word for it when they say it’s safe to go back to school.
