The hyperbolic claims about whether or not the U.S. Postal Service is prepared for the upcoming November election have reached astounding proportions. In the midst of all the political theater in Washington, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy sought to clear the air by communicating a few obviously realities about the USPS.
In the short term, the Postal Service is fully equipped to handle the nations election mail, and that it has a fully stocked coffer of cash to deploy if the situation demands it. In the long-term however, DeJoy has been mindful of the existential crisis facing the Postal Service with its immense recurring debts and growing competitive eCommerce pressures that erode the fabric of the institution from the inside out. After all the work in the months ahead to effectively serve voters, the Postal Service will have to look inward at its delivery management given that this federal government agency has been routinely identified as a High-Risk entity according to the Government Accountability Office.
Since the early 2000s, as the GAO decries a bleak financial outlook that put its mission of providing universal postal service at risk. To help resolve this DeJoy is applying his expertise in the logistics field with a number of efficiency fixes, which in the years to come will reinvigorate the Postal Services business sensibilities and bring clarity and economies of scale that will allow us to reduce our cost base and capture new revenue.

Anymore, any time I drop something in the mailbox, I wonder if it is going to get where it is supposed to be. When I am expecting something important in the mail, I wonder if it will actually get to me. I have seen USPS failures on both of those multiple times. Whenever I have to send something important, I insure it and have tracking. Even that doesn’t guarantee it will be delivered. Tracking often shows where the item went instead of where it was supposed to go. My wife sent some old family photos to a cousin in the Chicago suburbs. It took thirteen days for them to be delivered, and we watched every day where they went before they got to her cousin.
I don’t trust mail-in voting as far as I can spit.
This is a con, illegal and obvious ballot stuffing scam. Why aren’t these bastards been arrested yet?
Zero. Zilch. Nada.
The issue is about whether expanded mail balloting should occur at all, and the answer (if you fall out on side of the issue that CARES about voting integrity) is a resounding and unequivocal NO.
NO.
NO.
NO.
This is another case of conservatives playing into the hands of the Left by quibbling about whether the USPS can handle it...which is a detail. Comparatively speaking, an extremely UNIMPORTANT detail.
We do the same thing on a lot of issues. The Left builds their case on faulty foundations and goes up from there and we end up pulling at threads.
We need to go at the faulty and erroneous foundation with jackhammers, backhoes, and dynamite.
And the faulty foundation is that mail in voting is a worthy goal.
It isn't.
Weld the trash cans and dumpsters shut at the Post Office.
Mail in voting will be the bullet to the head of America.
Agreed.
If the Left is all in on something, I know it can’t be good. It is as simple as that.
There is no direct chain of custody between voter and vote counter.
Evidence is thrown out if no CoC in a trial.
May as well send them straight to DNC state headquarters. USPS Union already endorsed Biden/Harris.
C’mon man!
Purple finger or finger print on ballot. Signatures easy to copy.
Remember tax season in years past? The Post Office in the various towns and cities I lived in has a special "lane" set up for April 15th: you drive up, and you hand the envelope with your return to a worker. He then puts that envelope into a bin, clearly marked with the IRS office address.
If the Postal Service wants to go one better, they can do this: set up a similar collection "lane", accept the ballot, and insert into a sealed metal container clearly marked "Ballots". The entire container would then be delivered, unopened, to the counting area. The Post Office would not have a key, only the election officers.
This does not prevent some of the fraud methods that have been exposed in interviews with operatives. It does prevent the union postal worker from handling ballot envelopes multiple times on its way to the counting table.
I don't know if the Post Office has time to implement this idea; they may have to do with cardboard boxes with accountant's tape. But it can be done, and with little incremental cost.
Indeed, using this method would reduce the cost of collection and delivery, because several hundred mail pieces can be handled by the delivery service once, and without need for sorting (machine or hand). No need to postmark each mail piece, as they are bundled into a single container and delivered before the deadline, guaranteed.
Yeah, it will never happen.
This kind of happens in smaller areas. The ballots are pretty identifiable. They are culled out, stamped, and put right in the route for town hall.
But, now that local mail has to go to the big centers, this would be against the rules.
I see the USPS is practicing for the election.

If only someone there had a brain.
The USPS union endorsed Biden. It’s absurd to have them be part of the election process.
Wait a minute. Why did a package going from Tampa to Dade City Florida end up in San Juan 2 weeks AFTER it got to its destination PO?
Exactly !!
It got here today and the usps has erased the tracking history so just one more truth that you can’t get anywhere but on Free Republic.
The chain of custody argument needs to be put out there to make people think. I was on a jury last week and they spent quite a bit of time with witnesses establishing just that on any physical evidence. The CSI, for example, had to account that photos were ones he had taken. He had to say he recognized items from the crime scene, sealed in packages, and that he had signed, labeled, and sealed them. There were DNA samples from the crime scene, and the DNA analyst had to do the same. This was all new to me and I found it interesting and sensible.
If I were in charge, here’s how a person would vote:
1. Get up off your duff and go and get registered in the jurisdiction where you are allowed to vote.
2. Get up off your duff on election day and go to your friendly neighborhood polling place and cast your ballot. The way I have voted in Indiana gives me confidence that my vote will be counted as I cast it.
Absentee voting would be allowed only under limited circumstances.
So many people are such hypocrites. They’ll say the vote is our most important right as citizens. They’ll honor the soldiers who fought and died to preserve that right. They’ll honor the suffragettes and the civil rights leaders who fought to extend the franchise. Then they’ll go and advocate questionable registration practices, early voting, no ID requirements, online voting, and now mail-in voting, which they say will make voting easier but which are really likely to add corruption to the whole process and make the legitimacy of some office holders questionable. They would truly honor those who sacrificed for our rights if they got off their duffs and went to vote.
Of course, their supposed honors are probably all malarkey anyway, just as is their concern for a fair and legitimate election.
A detour to Puerto Rico... are these union workers drunk, incompetent, or just setting up all their plausible deniability for ballots? Glad you finally got delivery, anyway.. The USPS deletion of the tracking history is a nice touch. Telling bit of info.
Guess I’d better take a screen shot of the tracking log for an envelope I’m expecting. Sent 17 days ago. Last transit entry was 13 days ago, showing it hadn’t even left the state it was sent from.
That means they have Deep State Demonicrats who are willing to pre-date postmarks on bundles of phony mail-in ballots.
