The sheriffs of Clackamas and Washington County in Oregon said they won't send staff to help with the nightly unrest in Portland after Gov. Kate Brown unveiled a plan to bring an end to violence in the city.
Brown had asked the sheriffs and the Gresham Police Department to support the Portland Police Bureau with personnel and resources "to keep the peace and protect free speech."
Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts on Monday said the governor never approached him before unveiling her plan to mobilize local law enforcement agencies in the Portland protests, and that he has no plans to send his staff to nightly demonstrations.
“Had Governor Brown discussed her plan with my office, I would have told her it’s about changing policy, not adding resources,” he said, according to a statement released by Kellee Azar, a reporter with Portland's KATU. “Increasing law enforcement resources in Portland will not solve the nightly violence and now, murder.”
He said that Portland’s newly elected district attorney had dismissed charges against hundreds of protesters arrested for non-violent, low-level crimes.
“The same offenders are arrested night after night, only to be released by the court and not charged with a crime by the DA’s Office. The next night they are back at it, endangering the lives of law enforcement and the community all over again,” Roberts continued. “The criminal justice system will need do its part and hold offenders accountable.”
The sheriff added that his staff would still assist Oregon State Police with service calls that they normally handle in Clackamas County.
Under the six-point plan unveiled on Sunday, Brown said the nearly 100 days of protests have stretched the Portland Police Bureau’s resources thin.

I wish these Rats would go and try to fix Haiti, Venezuela, or Zimbabwe instead of messing up the greatest country in the history of the world.

Well,. calling it a criminal justice system kind of leads me to believe that won’t happen. Crime has been seeping into our entire governmental structure for a long time.
We can blame the judges, mayors, etc., but we GET the JUSTICE we DEMAND. We get the CRIME we TOLERATE.
It seems that as it has always been, the saving of the world, the United States, is in each and every individual hand and mouth.
1. The DA gets serious about charging and prosecuting the cases brought to their office by the police.
2. The DA is replaced by somebody who will take the job seriously.
3. Martial law is instituted, bypassing local prosecutors and judges and bringing the accused before military tirbunals.
4. Doing nothing and allowing matters to totally devolve to the point where vigilance committees take it upon themselves to try to clean up the mess.
I really don't see any other viable outcome.
More than just not stupid. They are protecting their deputies from the inevitable bogus charges that will get leveled against them.
The District Attorney is NOT charging the criminals and releasing them in time for the next nights crimes. How STUPID can the Democrats be?

When this was announced yesterday I pointed out the Governor does not have the authority to re-assign police. Every City and County has their own police force and the governor may request help but can not demand it.
The Sheriff is correct. If the DA would have prosecuted those arrested and locked them up for a time, the riots would have ended months ago.
The Governor’s plan also says it includes the FBI and the US Attorney’s office. How much of any of this is real and how much is just to tar everyone except the ultra Leftists and anarchists with with the deaths and destruction?
Not stupid. Playbook example of how to put citizens against gov’t. And then expect LE to hurt someone special, breakdown civil order and create chaos, out if the mess, tighten civil controls to interfere a/ law abiding folks, exacerbating the civic stress, more chaos more control....eventual “popular” revolution.
