The former head of the National Security Agency under President Barack Obama and President Trump says he wishes the United States had taken more action against Russian meddling prior to the 2016 election and claimed the country is better prepared in 2020.
Adm. Mike Rogers, who retired in 2018 after four years as NSA chief and commander of U.S. Cyber Command, spoke with NPRs Mary Louise Kelly on All Things Considered this week, saying that I wish we had taken, broadly, more action prior to the election itself in 2016.
He said the U.S. was aware of Russias meddling efforts in the summer of 2016, even after Obama said in December 2016 that he pulled Russian President Vladimir Putin aside during an early September 2016 G-20 meeting and told him to cut it out and there were going to be serious consequences if he did not. Obama claimed that we did not see further tampering of the election process afterward.
But after warnings from Obama and others, the third volume of the Senate Intelligence Committees Russia report concluded, Russia continued disseminating stolen emails, conducting social media-based influence operations, and working to access state voting infrastructure through Election Day 2016. The committee criticized the Obama administration for being unprepared to combat Russias election interference effort and for fumbling the response, finding that the U.S. government was not well-postured to counter Russian election interference activity with a full range of readily-available policy options.
Senate investigators interview FBI agent who led Flynn portion of Crossfire Hurricane Rogers said that once we saw then in the aftermath of the Obama-Putin talk that this activity wasnt stopping, I wish we had taken more direct, more public action sooner, as opposed to doing so after the election itself. The U.S. tossed nearly three dozen Russian operatives out of the U.S. the month after the November election.
When asked what sort of action he wished had been taken, Rogers said, I would say enacting a price. Making them pay a price for the behavior as part of that.

Adm. Mike Rogers has reportedly met with U.S. Attorney John Durham multiple times in the Connecticut prosecutors investigation into the Trump-Russia investigators.
“Rogers has reportedly met with U.S. Attorney John Durham multiple times “
Hmm, I take that as a bad sign. It sounds like Durham was giving credence to the Russia meddling BS instead of going after the Justice department spying on a Presidential Campaign.
Sad to see Rogers lending credence to any of this.
Russia continued disseminating stolen emails”
Is he talking about the Wikileaks stuff? The Russians didn’t steal those then release them.
Obama told Putin to “cut it out.” Adm. Rogers wishes they had done more to stop Russia from meddling in our elections.
Maybe Obama should have said,” Hey! I said knock it off!” And the then the Admiral could have violently wagged his finger, shook his head, and sucked his teeth at Putin.
THAT woulda learned ‘im! But good!
Was’t Adm. Mike Rogers the hero who was the first to warn Trump that a coup was in progress?
Does the NSA have any plan to deal with the chinee interference in our election that they are perpetuating RIGHT NOW?
And then threaten to send an angry letter.
This is horrible news. I thought of Adm. Rogers as a hero who stood up to the deep state spying on the Trump campaign. He warned Trump who then moved from Trump Tower to his NJ golf course. Everyone knows that Seth Rich delivered the Hillary emails to Assange. The Russians did NOT hack the DNC computers. Adm Rogers now seems to be supporting the bogus RUSSIA! RUSSIA RUSSIA! bullshit. The Durham investigation also appears to be going into cover up mode, protecting the halls of power from the light of justice. I hope I am wrong—but I am appalled and disgusted by Rogers’ interview. Is he still one of the good guys, or has h been cmpromised too? DAMN!
It tu Brute’?
It is indisputable that Russia meddled in the election. It is essential to an investigation to understand what each party did, and did not do. Trump and his campaign had nothing to do with Russia.
Et to Brute’?
Spell check sucks.
Wow, thanks Mike. /s
Just think 12 Russians in a room with a DSL connection thwarted Hillary’s billion dollar political campaign.
Sad to see Rogers lending credence to any of this.
************
Read it again. I think Rogers is being critical of Obama.
The big threat to the campaign was the actual facts that they were hiding leaking out?
Their dirty secrets being aired to the public is what turned people against them?
The actual true agenda and the truth invalidated what they were passing to the public?
they lost because someone exposed their truths?
Just think 12 Russians in a room with a DSL connection thwarted Hillary’s billion dollar political campaign
And what about the more serious Chinese actions?
