MLB fans’ reaction to Jacob Blake boycotts says it all
NY Post ^ | 29 Aug 2020 | Phil Mushnick

As always, follow the money!

Forgive my insensitivity, but what happened Thursday night at Citi Field was easier done than said because it was a matter of money. In this case, not much of it was at stake.

And every person at or near the top of sports who publicly declares his or her support for Thursday’s Marlins-Mets race-based boycott is full of it. Whatever the issue or cause, it’s a lot easier to be righteous when there are no paying customers to send home. Timing was everything.

This season, with no tickets, tack-on fees, parking, hideously marked-up eats and drinks to sell, Thursday there was no one to rip off except cable and satellite TV subscribers, who have been conditioned to bait-and-switch abuses.

For better, worse and all that lies between, here’s the problem:

Fans don’t care nearly as much as they did. They’ve learned to live without sports, especially in their current diminished condition. They’ve learned that they’re taken for granted. And more and more they’ve determined that they won’t pay another dime to attend games or to watch them on TV.

Thursday’s game-time walkout in protest of police brutality may have been a sincere group action or largely based in peer pressure, but judging from the response of readers, none much cared. None were outraged or even disappointed that there wasn’t going to be a game to watch.

Baseball, regardless of social conditions, has become a take-it or leave-it proposition, and it seems clear that increasing numbers are resolved, if not tacitly urged, to leave it.

Our son-in-law has worked for a big city as a police officer for almost 30 years and for the city’s professional baseball team as security......he’s turned in his resignation and so have many other officers. They’re not going to work for those who take sides with America’s enemies. God bless ‘em.

That sounds reasonable; the pros have FARM TEAMS, after all.

I hear that McDonalds is hiring. Of course being able to make change for a twenty would be a prerequisite which would disqualify most of these f*cking idiots.

The Democrats and their supporters are always touting the importance of paying attention to science. But they appear to know zilch about that subject

A law of economics: displeased customers > no profits > no jobs
A law of physics: any action (e.g., a players’ boycott) leads to an equal, opposite reaction (e.g., a customer boycott)

I think there was indeed a reaction.

Real America got together to, in unison, SHRUG ITS SHOULDERS.

"great opportunity for an entrepreneur to start a Patriot League.
Boycott equals contract cancellation. Either stand for the flag or stay in your locker room. No political slogans on the field."

👍

"Here's what owners and fans think of you. You are no different than cardboard cutouts."

They treat the fans as NPCs in their game but the fans are what the game is all about, they have totally lost focus.

The American people should stop watching and supporting any professional sports activities...period!!! Lebron James and his cohorts in all sports are paid to play and excel in their chosen sports. I do need them. any of them low lifes, to educate me in my politics..period.

I do suggest that Mr. Lebron James immediately give up his Basketball career, his sports contracts and become a full time low paid, low life Democrat Party, politician!!!

Americans, abandon this living scum & vermin....like right now!!! Or, let all of them become politicians instead of sportsmen or sportswomen!!!

Just a bunch of junior high babies. It’s very difficult to feel sorry and empathize about racism when you have thousands of black American millionaires in: sports and entertainment, crying like babies, all of which make more in a day than I do in a year...and I’m white....RACISSSSSTTTTT.

Either stand for the flag or stay in your locker room.

Your no doubt mean well, but there are many, myself included that don't want to give money to those who are by their absence not willing to support our flag.

Like it or not, we live in a tribal setting - or at least until we have a one-world government.

Call me old fashioned, but some things and people should be honored.

I doubt owners agree with all of this. They’re terrified of being “cancelled”.

I doubt all the players agree with it either, but go along, for the same reasons.

Will hundreds of former pro jocks soon be flooding the labor market?

**************

No, they’ll be engaged in illegal activities pursuing the lure of easy money. Most of these entitled ingrates couldn’t hold down a normal job if their life depended on it.

The complete destruction of my interest in professional sports (or college, but I had damned little in that anyway) should be counted as a victory for American feminism, because as we *all know*, when teams lose, all their male fans go out and rape someone. /sarc
