In HBO’s new series, “Perry Mason” sees the titular private detective

Perry Mason is a lawyer. Paul Drake is the private detective he hires.

Since this author does not know this is there any reason to read further?

Is Mason a PI in this series instead of the trusty Paul Drake. The original Mason programs are on Memorable Entertainment TV. Watching them a half century later it is interesting how dark the plots were for their time. Not only does Mason unspin a complex plot but most of the principles, and some times even the person he defends are morally and ethically corrupt. When you are 12 you don't pick up on that so much.

The best Spiritual Allegory applying to today's leftists is Plato's 'The Cave'.

It’s a series worthy of watching.

From what I heard they put many things in this series that Earl Stanley Gardiner never did. It’s pretty raunchy they said.

Erle Stanley Gardner must be spinning in his grave.

My grandparents loved the old Perry Mason show. They were both a little hard of hearing, however, so it was always at top volume. They called the DA, Hamilton Berger, "Hamburger." The theme song still thrills me a bit . . .

You can’t remake a classic. It doesn’t work...it NEVER works.

I had a small role in the very last PERRY MASON. Those were fun years, here in Denver.

I watched the entire first season. It was VERY good!

A different perspective, so what? If I wanted the old Perry Mason I can still watch it today.

While I usually hate the insertion of homos in EVERY movie/show, it is ironic that the original Hamilton Burger (William Talman) and Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) were BOTH gay!

In this version Della Street and Hamilton Burger are gay. Perry Mason is not.

Some nudity (including male nudity), but I’m not offended by nudity. I’m “nude”, all night, every night.

This is in the new style/genre, if that’s the right word, as Yellowstone, Westworld, Game of Thrones, and Outlander.

All EXCELLENT in my view. While I could do without the foul language and gratuitous nudity (ALL nudity is not gratuitous or vulgar), I’m not a baby and I can handle it.

These shows are not for “snowflakes”. If you are easily offended best stick to Disney .... wait.....

That would explain the timing of this book release.

My wife and I just finished this show. Very well done. Matthew Rhys is excellent as Mason — both as the private investigator and as a lawyer for the accused. The period setting of the 30s was a great choice and very detailed.
