I watched the entire first season. It was VERY good!
A different perspective, so what? If I wanted the old Perry Mason I can still watch it today.
While I usually hate the insertion of homos in EVERY movie/show, it is ironic that the original Hamilton Burger (William Talman) and Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) were BOTH gay!
In this version Della Street and Hamilton Burger are gay. Perry Mason is not.
Some nudity (including male nudity), but I’m not offended by nudity. I’m “nude”, all night, every night.
This is in the new style/genre, if that’s the right word, as Yellowstone, Westworld, Game of Thrones, and Outlander.
All EXCELLENT in my view. While I could do without the foul language and gratuitous nudity (ALL nudity is not gratuitous or vulgar), I’m not a baby and I can handle it.
These shows are not for “snowflakes”. If you are easily offended best stick to Disney .... wait.....
It is an origin story. In it Mason is a deeply damaged soul, damaged by his WWI experiences and a failed marriage, separated from his son. He drinks too much and has become very jaded. But yet there is an inkling of a sense of right and wrong and of wanting justice in him.
Matthew Rhys is perfect in the role as he was playing another deeply conflicted character in The Americans.
“A different perspective, so what? If I wanted the old Perry Mason I can still watch it today.”
So....if someone wants to tell the story of a WW1 vet who faces XYZ, let him tell that story. Just don’t PRETEND it is Perry Mason. Or Philip Marlowe or Sam Spade. Stealing Perry Mason’s name is borrowing a name for 80 novels and a great TV series to whip up an audience for your unrelated tale. It is dishonest.
