Biden’s Lockdown Mistake: A President’s job is to consider the national interest, not to default to experts who often disagree.
Wall Street Journal ^ | August 23, 2020 | WSJ Editorial Board

Now we know why his advisers have kept Joe Biden under wraps. Asked in an ABC interview airing Sunday night whether he’d be willing to shut down the economy again to head off a new wave of coronavirus infection, he replied: “I would shut it down. I would listen to the scientists.”

Ah, the resort to scientists. But which scientists? The truth is that the experts have been wrong numerous times in this pandemic, and they often disagree. They first said masks don’t help but now say they do. They said ventilators were vital but soon learned other clinical methods worked better. Most of all, they counseled strict lockdowns, but we’ve learned the hard way that shutting down the country can be more costly than the virus.

President Trump listened to his public-health advisers in March and ordered a two-week shutdown that extended to six weeks. The shutdown dragged on as infections and deaths in the Northeast surged, though hospital beds in most of the country remained empty. Thirty million Americans filed for unemployment by the end of April, and states slowly began to lift their lockdowns as the economic and public-health damage became unsustainable.

The high costs are slowly becoming known. A study this month in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reports that newly identified cancers fell 46.4% from March 1 to April 18, which will likely lead to cancers detected at more advanced stages with worse clinical outcomes.

Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic last month reported the incidence of stress-induced cardiomyopathy from March 1 to April 30 increased four-fold.

We hate Trump, but his opponents are wrong. But they are nice guys and we hate Trump. But they are wrong. Trump is just not a nice person. He not only does the right thing, but he just blurts it out that he is doing the right thing never mind that he is hurting the feelings of the hurt feelings industry among the NeverTrumpers.

Did I remind you that we hate Trump even though he is doing the right thing. He hurts our feelings. The people who tried to ruin his presidency are people too.

I think it was Dan Bongino who said that this remark about taking advice of “experts” would hurt Biden more than anything else.

I agree.

We’ve had it with these so-called experts out here in la-la land where we carry this country on our backs.

If Biden thinks his talk about obeying them will impress us....well he’s wrong.

We might listen to the experts, hear their thoughts, but we will not obey them.

My rule of thumb: Never take advice from an expert who has nothing to lose if he’s wrong.

My second rule of thumb is that I will never need a shutdown order from some government pr!ck who still collects a paycheck while he or she orders taxpaying citizens to close down their businesses.

Now this is really scary. A 77 year old dude with onset dementia will listen and obey "scientists" if they call for another lockdown. Who are these "scientists" Joe is speaking of? Do they have vested interests in another lockdown?

Republicans should be all over this.

Like highly paid consultants who tell you how to reorg your business. They get paid and sneak out the back.

Always listen to experts. They’ll tell you what can’t be done and why. Then do it.

If we’ve learned anything from this episode it’s that there ARE no “experts.”

A President always have advisors and advisors can often disagree. The President makes the decisions.

Biden is likely incapable of making such decisions so he would defer to advisors.

There’s a reason it’s called “practicing medicine”.

Simple health questions (for fun):

What’s the best diet?
What’s the “proper” amount of exercise?
Is milk good or bad?
Are eggs good or bad?
Is sunscreen good or bad?

In the last three years my son spent nearly 300 days in the hospital. His condition was so odd that no doctor could actually define precisely what it was. I can’t count how many teams of doctors would come in and take a swing at it.

They would have daily conferences with doctors from numerous departments.

They would agree on some treatment options and disagree on others.

I can’t think of one of them that I could define as the ultimate expert.

The LAST “expert” I would rely on is someone from the government like Fauci.

After being told he was terminal he said he would not give up.

He is on an experimental drug and also goes out of state for an experimental treatment.

When the expert says he can do no more then find another expert.

I’m an uneducated deplorable but I have watched hundreds of doctors and other medical professionals in action. From the beginning Fauci looked like a government clown to me.

Trump listened to the scientists. That’s precisely the reason we are in the pickle we are in.
