Spain’s socialist government plans to build 30-foot high walls around its North African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla to stop illegal migrants.
According to a report from Italian newspaper Il Giornale, the new walls will not be topped with barbed wire, in order to prevent injury of migrants who do make it to the top of the wall. But a steel cylinder will be placed at the top to make it harder for migrants to get over.

Once again, the excess concern about the welfare of the invader. How about making an attempt to breach the wall a lethal experience in every case. When a center - left government in power realizes the need to put physical barriers to avoid the collapse of a border area, the controversy magically fades.

If European or European-derived countries are so horrible, as the left always claims, why are so many people eager to flee to them?
Before I retired I transported an inmate to the state’s most secure prison. Signs on the inmates’ side of the massive 60ft concrete wall stated that “Inmates Within 50ft of the Wall Would Be Shot”.
You know, I find it hilarious whenever Spain gets so butthurt over “England out of Gibraltar!”, yet they feel perfectly entitled to hold on to African colonial possessions. It’s exact same sort of temper tantrum that Argentina periodically pulls over The Falklands.
But of course, I’ve known for years that colonialism is *NOT* created equal. English “KKKolonial KKKleptomania” (as the activist groups called it when I was in Uni), is *always* genocidally evil, whereas for some reason, French and Spanish colonialism is somehow “acceptable”.
Similarly I recall reading in an Irish Newspaper ‘Emigrant’ (targeted to irish overseas) complaining about illegals from Nigeria in Ireland. The next article was about how the 50K illegals from Ireland need amnesty in the USA.
Walls do work as a secondary measure. They are an inanimate object solution for when your courts and legislatures cannot bother creating meaningful negative consequences for illegal entry, identity theft, visa overstays, working contrary to one’s visa terms, etc.
It’s like blaming guns for human’s bad behavior in the use of a gun.
Electrify the steel cylinder at the top.
It’s not about the rock of Gibraltar itself, but the UK took additional land not covered by the treaty, to build an airport.
Spain ceeded Gibraltar in perpetuity to the UK in 1713 and the people living there want to stay with Britain.
