AUSTIN (KXAN) For the first time in more than a month, a statewide poll has found President Donald Trump ahead of former Vice President Joe Biden in Texas.
The YouGov poll, commissioned by Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation and Rice Universitys Baker Institute for Public Policy, surveyed 846 registered voters in Texas from August 4-13. Trump had a 7-point lead over Biden, 47.5% to 40.5%, among all voters surveyed and a 5-point lead among most-likely voters, 49.4% to 44.1%.
One in 10 voters remains undecided, according to the poll.
Before the release of the most recent YouGov poll, Biden had topped Trump in four of the last five statewide polls in Texas.
The poll also examined the U.S. Senate race in Texas between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican, and Democratic challenger MJ Hegar. Cornyn leads Hegar by 7 points, 44.4% to 37.4%, among all voters with 12.9% of voters undecided.

Make that a meme.
Texas Choice - Boots or Birkenstocks.
“The actual vote will be closer to +17 for Trump.”
Yes, given the retaliation that goes on many Trump supporters are not about to tell some stranger on the phone how they are going to vote.
Now how can it be horrible? Just tonight you'll get nursing home killer Cuomo, rino Kasich, and moochie Obama who is suffering depression.
They are letting Sanders speak one evening.
And Yang has the spotlight right before Joe Biden.
I wonder if yang is there to tell us we should be cozying up to China not disconnecting from them.
I want to know where my $1000/month is from him.
I’ll agree there’s some of that happening, too. The anger has overcome shame, and now they’ve got a plausible reason to express it.
Did even Democrats believe they ever led in Texas? LOL!
And that with the usual over-samples of Democrats
Polls are not NEWS!!!
looks like the eternal dem fairy tale about flipping tx will have to wait for (yet) another cycle.
7%? That’s a wider margin than in ‘16 isn’t it?
Polls are for the MSM to boost ratings.
If we all stopped watching the 24/7 bull stuff, they would be back to reporting how the seals were handling the heat at the zoo.
Open your eyes.
Wow, Trump’s ahead in Texas!!!!
Next thing you know, the Sun will rise in the East - holy smokes, things are really turning around.
Puhleeeeze! If Trump doesn’t win Texas by 10 this time around, we’re toast nationwide with all of the cheating that these Leftist SOBs are going to do. People here are very motivated, even making the fight against Hillary pale in comparison. This really is a make or break election - and people are very enthusiastic on our side.
LOL! He is going to win it by 20.
Trump won’t.
Very true! I expect it to give Biden a 20 pt bounce
Here comes that Blue Wave.
You may be right, but this is not a tightening poll for Texasit actually reflects a larger lead for Trump than other recent polls. The 3 previous polls listed by RCP are Trump +2, Biden +1, and Trump +6.
I think anyone who simply assumes Texas is comfortably red either has not been paying attention for the last several elections or lives in rural Texas and doesnt see what is happening in and around the cities.
I think Trump will probably win Texas, but I would not just take it as a given. Texas is not nearly as solidly Republican as it once was. Bush won Texas by over 20% in each election, and McCain and Romney each won by solid double-digit margins, but Trump only won by 9%. The Democrats won a lot of races around the state in 2018.
Texas is becoming increasingly urban and the cities, the suburbs are increasingly voting Democrat, and the Democrats are spending a lot of money here. Harris County used to be “purple” during Presidential elections and solidly Republican during mid-terms. Now, it is solidly blue during Presidential years, and the Democrats swept every countywide race not only in Harris County in 2018, but also in neighboring, formerly-reliably-Republican Fort Bend County. They also swept all of the court of appeals races here, which cover not just Harris County and Fort Bend County but several other, solidly-Republican counties as well. The red counties simply got outvoted by Democrats in Harris and Fort Bend Counties. This happened elsewhere in the state, too.
It’s actually going to take work to hold onto Texas.
As stated elsewhere, I find two problems with this “survey:”
First it has a rather small sample size, resulting in a margin of error right around +/- 3.5%
Second, it admittedly oversamples hispanics, who prefer Biden by 9.5 percentage points.
