US surpasses 170,000 Coronavirus deaths with at least 5.4 million confirmed cases, the highest in the world, according to Reuters tally.

The United States surpassed 170,000 coronavirus deaths on Sunday, according to a Reuters tally.

Deaths rose by 483 on Sunday, with Florida, Texas and Louisiana, leading the rise in fatalities, the tally found.

The United States has at least 5.4 million confirmed cases in total of the novel coronavirus, the highest in the world and likely an undercount as the country still has not ramped up testing to the recommended levels.

Cases are falling in most states except for Hawaii, South Dakota and Illinois.

Public health officials and authorities are concerned about a possible fall resurgence in cases amid the start of the flu season, which will likely exacerbate efforts to treat the coronavirus.

Centers for Disease Control Director Robert Redfield warned in an interview with Web MD that the United States may be in for its “worst fall” if the public does not follow health guidelines.

Worldwide there are at least 21.5 million coronavirus cases and over 765,000 confirmed deaths, according to Reuters. The United States remains the global epicenter of the virus, with around a quarter of the cases and deaths.

Last week, US President Donald Trump announced the US government will purchase 100 million doses of Moderna’s experimental coronavirus vaccine, which is currently in late-stage human trials.

Moderna separately said the deal for its vaccine, mRNA-1273, is worth $1.53 billion and will give the federal government the option to purchase up to 400 million additional doses.

Previously, Trump estimated that a vaccine for coronavirus may be produced ahead of the US presidential election on November 3.

Asked by radio talk show host Geraldo Rivera whether a vaccine could come by the election, Trump said, "I think in some cases, yes, possible before. But right around that time."

Every death is sad yes.
But we are all going to die sometime, seeing as how we are not immortal.
Most coronavirus deaths are very old folks with pre existing conditions who were due to die anyways. Total deaths so far this year are still running lower than 2019.
This is pure fear porn and hyperbole from Reuters. As usual.

170,000 sounds high but in the US in a normal year, 53,000 people die every week. So in the 24 weeks this thing gas been killing people we lost 1.3 million people, so the covid number is 14% of normal. Question is is that on top of normal or are some of those people who would have died anyway?

Because this virus kills older people it is likely some covid deaths would have died anyway. We won’t know until it’s over.

My guess is the extra deaths are somewhere between 5-7%.

You’re talking about the Case Fatality Rate, which is subject to how thoroughly tested your population is. The rate of actual death is measured by the Infection Fatality Rate. For COVID-19, the IFR is estimated between 0.64 - 0.66%.

Working backwards from the current death count, we’ve had about 26.6 million actual cases. A lot of cases early on were missed because we had no functional test (thanks CDC!). Testing now is still missing plenty of asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic cases.

I agree that it is depressingly high, but I caution you and others to think...what would our numbers be if we as a country allowed our doctors to use HCQ with zinc and antibiotic at the early stages of the disease? I posit that our numbers would be DRASTICALLY improved!!!

Fauci, Gates, and many many others have egos and money on the line. Frankly, they should be charged with terrible crimes against humanity. They continue to fiddle while Rome has already burned to the ground.

Why? Testing some say? More testing than others? The death rate per million is an equalizer to testing. You may inflate the death rate by attribution of something else but how often?

Germany’s death rate is 20% as high as ours. Is that all because of false attribution to covid here? I doubt that very much.

I know false attribution occurs. I know of a guy, second hand, who had covid, hospitalized, recovering, fell, hit his head and died of the head injury. Death attributed to covid. False attribution. Does it happen often? I don’t know but I know that a death rate five times higher than a similarly developed does not make sense and can’t be attributed solely to false attribution.

Someone else posted this on this thread but I’m doing it again to make easy access to the facts I’ve stated.

Depends on your age. Probably about 99.8% if you’re under 40 years old.

Let’s add the totals from Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Poland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, and the UK, then compare their deaths to the United States.

Ah, I see you have my same point of view regarding HCQ. Please ignore my previous comment as directed to you. It would only be appropriate for those who are believing that HCQ is more harmful to you than the virus might be.

Fauci, Gates, and many many others have egos and money on the line. Frankly, they should be charged with terrible crimes against humanity. They continue to fiddle while Rome has already burned to the ground.

Nero covered Christians in pitch and lit them as torches for his garden parties.

Their 21st century counterparts and gubernatorial surrogates have placed lower capacity limits on churches than on big box stores, ordered muzzles on faithful, some States forbidden singing, and in some States attempted to forbid the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ in Holy Communion.

Worst of all, too many Hierarchs have caved to these insatious tyrants' decrees and have forsaken the faith of our fathers who cried in similar distess:

"We praise, be bless, and we worship the LORD!"

Yeah, where are the feckless RINOs shouting for investigations like the Dems do? Not a peep out of them. Hell, the Dems are already calling for an investigation of the Postmaster General. Took them all of about 2 days to get in unison to make it happen.

covid has been weaponised against Trump.
how many deaths would US have if only “died from covid” were counted?
ditto if HCQ+ was prescribed?
ditto if Dems hadn’t forced nursing homes to take covid hospitalised patients?
ETC

I think this was from April (US deaths 167 per million is now 523 per million). It would be nice to see a more current analysis.

Which means we are getting worse. HCQ restrictions became EVEN MORE stringent since April.... in almost every state in the nation!
