New Jersey to adopt mail-in voting for November, governor says
CNN ^ | 08/14/2020 | By Elizabeth Hartfield and Paul LeBlanc

New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy said Friday that the state will use a hybrid voting model for November's election where all New Jersey residents will be mailed a ballot, and it will be up to them to decide if they would like to vote by mail or in person.

"We're going to have a hybrid model in November," Murphy told CNN's John Berman on "New Day." The announcement will make New Jersey -- which conducted its primaries almost entirely by mail -- the latest state to expand mail-in voting for the presidential election in response to the novel coronavirus.

Due to the pandemic, voting by mail is becoming an increasingly popular option since many voters may prefer not to wait in long lines at polling stations. New Jersey will be the ninth state -- plus Washington, DC -- to mail all registered voters ballots for the November election.

Murphy said that the state would extend the model of voting that the state used in the primary.

"We mailed ballots to folks who were registered in either party. We mailed applications to those who weren't. And we also provided in-person voting capacity at least 50% in each county and at least one location in each municipality. It was a success. Not perfect, but overwhelmingly a success," he said.

Murphy also said the state learned some lessons since the primary and will "have more presence of secure drop boxes, make sure there is that physical in voting capacity, and as it relates to mail-in ballots, the good news is in a general election, it doesn't matter what party you're in, everybody gets a ballot."

Trump doesn’t need or expect to win NJ. Their sloppiness on election night will cement how fraudulent mail in ballots are when untested.

What this ensures is that the states that adopt universal mail-in voting will be PERMANENTLY Democrat.

I can't imagine many New Jersey suburban women want their and their husbands 401k to lose 50% of value postponing their retirement another 5-10 years.

All their deceased parents will be mailed a ballot; their dogs and cats will have ballots, and their infant kids get ballots.

Every (democrat) neighborhood will have 110% of their votes returned and validated! Oddly, the GOP neighborhood ballots will get lost in the mail. Post Office is a union shop, you know!

20% of Brooklyn mailed in ballots just this cycle were thrown out! Took them weeks to figure out.

November = disaster.

NJ will never go for Trump. Never.

Although with this model, maybe I’ll try to vote both ways.

The next Democrap step is to eliminate the Electoral College—then they have a lock on the Presidential election. Who counts these ballots, anyway?

Yep. It will be time for the shooting iron or knee pads to come out. One of them will be put to use.

Why not both? It’s a free country, after all.

In all seriousness, many of these mail-in ballots will be sent to people who have moved away or passed away. I’ll bet you a dollar most of those folks will be voting D anyway.

Side story: An older relative of mine passed away four years ago. He was still on the voter rolls as of 2018 (his son checked). I’m thinking that’s the norm and not some sort of fluke.

I live in NJ and I can assure that, unfortunately, there no way in hell this will happen.

I used to walk candidate ballot petitions in my district. Every year I would knock on a door and ask to see a dead person (still on the rolls) for their signature, it's embarrassing.

Trump lawyers will be busy. Here in Iowa, two counties are going to try this. That will be the next national play, if they can’t get away with it in the state they will switch to the county.

Of course they are. Trump wasn’t going to carry that state anyway.
