The United States has now surpassed five million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 160,000 deaths from the virus as tens of millions of Americans file for unemployment, causing experts to debate how the nation should respond.
Neel Kashkari, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, says the answer should be a return to mandated lockdowns in every state for up to six weeks in an effort to save both lives and the economy.
"If we aren't willing to take this action, millions more cases with many more deaths are likely before a vaccine might be available," Kashkari wrote in a New York Times op-ed on Friday alongside Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.
Kashkari says lockdowns were having a positive effect during the spring. The problem, he told NPR's All Things Considered on Sunday, is that "we threw in the towel before the health officials had actually gotten control of the virus."
Giving up too early cost the economy, says Kashkari. What the country needs now, he says, is "a more stringent, uniform lockdown state-by-state" until the virus can be brought under control. "Then we can return to normal economic activity with more confidence."

And we should all listen to a Fed Prez for medical advice..................
All the numbers are dropping. We’re doing fine.
Banking Institutions are a far greater threat to our liberties than any standing army.
“We need to destroy this economy in order to save it.”
Time for this guy to be fired
And just remember, as stupid as you may think his comments are, his real power to meddle and inflict damage on you is FAR greater.
He and the other progressive social-engineers at the Federal reserve control the supply of money and interest rates. The very things at the root of nearly all decisions you make.
That would be as stupid as listening to Dr. Fauci for monetary supply policy..... or medical advice either.
Whatever happened to "push down the curve" so hospitals aren't overwhelmed?
A Fed official with a mediocre investment banking career which was bailed out by being given a plum job in Obama’s subprime bailout team.
Oh yeah . . . shutting down the economy worked so well the first time. . . . /serc
This guy is nuts!
Lockdowns Never Again: Sweden Was Right, and We Were Wrong

In life, we encounter things which may work in theory, but not in practice. Communism is famously one of those things. Time travel is another. With any luck, Americans will soon come to realize that strict social distancing, economic lockdowns, and mask-wearing all belong in that category of supposedly sound ideas that simply dont work in reality.
For evidence, lets look to Sweden. As Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, an ER doctor at a hospital in Stockholm, writes on his blog, COVID is over in Sweden. People have gone back to their normal lives and barely anyone is getting infected anymore.
Unlike so many other countries, Sweden never went into complete lockdown, Dr. Kendrick writes. Non-essential businesses remained open, people continued frequenting restaurants, the kids stayed in school, and very few people have bothered with face masks.
Simply make HCQ and Azithromycin OTC drugs. If a patient develops a cough and/or fever they can go to the local drug store and purchase the meds with Zinc Sulfate within 48 hours to control the Covid virus.......instead of waiting to get tested and waiting 5 days for test results, by then you are dead if over 70 years of age. Pandemic over.
.032% death rate IF there are truly 160,000 strictly Covid deaths.
“we must have sex to save the friendship”. Seinfeld.
Why would you lock down the whole country when 20% of the deaths were in NY and 50% of them were in 5 states?
Death from cancer is already 3 times that from covid-19.
Auto accidents kill 55000 year after year.
Influenza kills not just old and obese, it kills in all age ranges.
Covid-19 kills 99% only those who are obese, or diabetic, or have cancer, or have lung disease, or are very old and feeble.
But we shutdown the country for this?
And why are asymptomatic infections not a good thing?
It is same as a vaccine, creating immunity, only better and less risky than injecting some experimental vaccine in your body.
Sure, right after gay bath houses, riots, protests and peaceful demonstrations are shut down.
its funny how easily you can see the globalists in our midst if you look at their recommendations \ actions.
The benefits of any anti-viral medications are marginal at best if given more than 3 to 4 days after first symptoms.
