Lockdowns Never Again: Sweden Was Right, and We Were Wrong

In life, we encounter things which may work in theory, but not in practice. Communism is famously one of those things. Time travel is another. With any luck, Americans will soon come to realize that strict social distancing, economic lockdowns, and mask-wearing all belong in that category of supposedly sound ideas that simply don’t work in reality.

For evidence, let’s look to Sweden. As Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, an ER doctor at a hospital in Stockholm, writes on his blog, “COVID is over in Sweden. People have gone back to their normal lives and barely anyone is getting infected anymore.”

Unlike so many other countries, “Sweden never went into complete lockdown,” Dr. Kendrick writes. Non-essential businesses remained open, people continued frequenting restaurants, the kids stayed in school, and “very few people have bothered with face masks.”

Basically, Sweden did the exact opposite of what most Americans tragically still believe are the necessary requirements to reach the outcome that Sweden has achieved.

He argues what should now be obvious to any rational, thinking person, which is that “the size of the response in most of the world (not including Sweden) has been totally disproportionate to the threat.”

Naysayers may point to Sweden’s mortality rate to discount its success. But the virus has taken nearly 6,000 people in a country of 10 million, and one which tallies about 100,000 annual deaths each year. Given that 70 percent of those who died with COVID were over the age of 80 and very unhealthy, he argues, “quite a few of those 6,000 would have died this year anyway,” making COVID a “mere blip in terms of its effect on mortality.” And, while Sweden will likely continue to see deaths from COVID, it will likely never see anything close to those numbers again.

If there was a (D) in the White House or if this wasn’t an election year, we would have followed Sweden’s example.

The July jobs numbers came out. And voila, the push to cancel everything because of COVID has kicked into high gear. Next up will be the stories about how, suddenly, every child who has so much as a skinned knee is a Covid case.

But looting and rioting in our cities is A-OK.

I’ve never understood why communism is “good in theory.” That’s something that semi-educated people say to try to sound smarter. If a theory fails 100% of the time, it’s not good. It’s bad. It’s invalid.

We quarantined WELL PEOPLE. That was the mistake and that's why we're having the second wave. Nothing to do with masks and/or social distancing. All these folks that are getting it now would have had it months ago and we'd be over this.

At this point, we’re barking at the moon. The bulk of the non-critical thinking public believe that we are up against the black death and not much of anything will sway the maskers away from the propaganda. We are fully into the year of living stupid.

It's possible, although I have no direct evidence, jjust circumstantial, that nursing homes were seeded in some states. Besides Cuomo and other D governors sending positive people in. Earlier than that.

Yep. The lockdown was a logical step when we thought we might have a SARS situation. We don’t.

This lockdown and closing of the country only had two objectives from the beginning, keep Joe Biden in the Basement and out of the Public, and Stop Donald Trump Rallies.

A nearby nursing home had a recent outbreak. Three staff members went to Myrtle Beach and came back with Covid. They went to work sick and infected 60 people.
You can’t fix stupid.

It was Trump's call. He bought the fake projections being peddled by Fauci and Birx. As an astute FReeper noted his inner germophobe got the best of him. It's a mistake I'm sure he wouldn't repeat.
