CHICAGO (CBS) Is Chicagos Magnificent Mile at risk for massive store closures? Just two months ago it was the epicenter of unrest. Then this week there was a murder on Oak Street and Michigan Avenue. All of that is on top of a pandemic that has taken a toll on everyone.
A Chicago icon, the Magnificent Miles 13 blocks are known across the world. Its a draw for tourists and a serious boost to the citys bottom line. What would the city look like without all of this? Hopkins says we could find out.
There are existing vacancies, some stores still boarded up, others dealing with plummeting sales,
Were losing tax revenue, and we are losing sales tax on a daily basis, he said. If this trend continues, we wont have a viable downtown. And its not going to be that long. Were talking a few years. Privately theyre telling me they cant sustain this. They cant continue at the level theyre at right now, and if it keeps up, we are going to see a rash of business closures in the downtown area.
Hopkins was in a meeting with Mayor Lori Lightfoot and business owners in the area who were expressing their concerns, when the shooting happened Tuesday afternoon. Rapper FBG Duck was shot and killed. Two others were seriously injured.
Nordstrom and Bloomingdales and Ferragamo, and all large Marquee stores that are on the avenue here attract people from all over the world and all over the U.S. and Chicago, said Mike Riordan of the River North Residents Association. Its one thing to lose control one weekend, but then its another thing for this stuff to keep on going. It opened the floodgates to a bunch of brazenness and lawlessness that weve never seen here before.

I think we are witnessing, at the edges and by the shadows, an historical mass-migration from liberal to conservative cities and states.
It’s the Detroit Death Spiral in super fast time.
The mass-migration aligns with tens of millions of Americans buying their first-ever firearms.
Something tells me these red-pilled former moderates are NOT going to vote for the DemSocRat party.
It’s the Detroit Death Spiral going nationwide, see above.
And as police are hamstrung and undercut by Leftist mayors, the veterans quit en masse and relocate to conservative jurisdictions, leaving the imploding liberal cities even weaker to resist the commie scum.
The process keeps accelerating.
I usually attend a yearly trade show related to the business I am in. This year it was scheduled for Chicago, but was canceled. It is rescheduled for next year in Chicago. I think I will skip that one.
The Uhaul rates going to my destination (TN) from Los Angeles is 50 percent higher than my destination to Los Angeles.
Yep. And its going to get worse.

The only way Chicago recovers from Groot is the election of the second incarnation of Mayor Daley. Not the son, but the old man. In his day, the ferals knew that any kind of mayhem down in the Loop meant a quick escort by the checkerheads to a convenient alley for a wooden shampoo. Short of a return to that policy, Chicago will not recover.
Visited once a few years back. Was twice targeted for mugging. Enough for me.
Yep was the same way with Chief Brier in Milwaukee.
You can blame NYC. Misery loves company. NYC and SF dont want to be the only failing cities. The Democrats have to make everyone suffer.
You don't want to move to Idaho. Lousy weather, no jobs, no housing, rednecks and pickup trucks everywhere.
Stay in Portland :)
Funny we had a hard time finding this on CNN. And they basically said police shot a man. CNN does not like to show this stuff. Because they are clearly just going into certain stores like Apple and Nike and steeling the stuff. They bring in Uhauls and cars, break the windows grab the best stuff what ever they can carry and hop back in the cars. There are thousands of videos.
Yep, they need to get their units back to fill shortages in the crapola Lib cities.
Detroit!
Because Black Looters Matter!
“Chicago, IL to Orlando, FL: $4108”
YOU KNOW Chicagoans are doing the math. They’re comparing the $4108 rental fee against their last Chicago property tax bill...and realizing they’ll make their money back in no time in a low-tax state. They may just consider the $4108 a good investment.
Best news I've heard yet today
Yep, there it is, in dollars and cents.
The market has spoken.
Interesting to note that Mayor Lightfoot and Governor Pritzker both noted that last night’s/this morning’s activities were NOT justification for deploying the National Guard or Federal troops. The mayor also added that they would not allow looters or ‘vigilantes’ free reign.
So be warned. If you defend your store, the law will be coming after you.
They need to flood the streets with social workers to get this under control.
Smart people vote with their feet. It’s time to get the hell out of Chicago before property values fall through the basement like they did in Detroit in the 70’s..
LOL!!
Hey NBC, they mailed their ID information in. Now let them IN
