WarnerMedias new CEO, Jason Kilar, announced a management shake-up Friday that promotes its streaming executive Andy Forssell to lead a new HBO Max operating business unit. Kilar also announced layoffs, and the departure of some top executives.

They are screwing the pooch on the HBO Max roll out. Probably because they are trying to extract more money from the like of Roku and Amazon.
If you used HBO GO on older devices, you are likely out of luck. I have have 2015 Samsung TV that isn’t supported, also one at my mom’s house. The work around is to use my iPhone, HDMI adapter, and HDMI cable.
With all these new streaming services I hope someone brings back the video rental store.
Interesting.
An Operating Unit has its own P&L and Balance Sheet, with OE flowing upward to the parent. It is quite different than a Division which merely has P & L.
At least that is my understanding.
I know folks who work at ATT. They have noticed (one if those “can’t help but notice” things) that the company intranet has yet to promote or crow about the “success” of HBO Max after launch. My brother has yet to make it work at his house.
Net: looks like it was a rush job Charlie Foxtrot. Over-priced, weak content (no Game of thrones) and beta code for the interface.
They deserve the failure if you ask me.
And the BS of blaming poor results across ATT on COVID has to be wearing thin with shareholders.
Massive CNN layoffs are coming. Pass it on.
They also blame all the problems with service dropping on Covid too many users..among all the other typical excuses. A search shows its quite a problem.
I don’t understand HBO Max either. We already had regular HBO through Comcast. I had to go through a signup process to connect to HBO Max, but that was just a minor nuisance. Our existing subscription covers it. I can’t really tell what the fuss was about. AT&T could have just made the TimeWarner movie and tv catalogue available through regular HBO and dispensed with all the fuss of rolling out a new platform that basically overlaps the old one. It looks to me like the marketing people created an artificial problem and made everyone jump through hoops to do something simple.
Time Warner’s biggest mistake.... not continuing the Animaniacs!
Bring back the Animaniacs! Or I am going to start a boycott movement!

They bragged about being able to handle the 25% increase in traffic. Dunno.
They [CNN] are the ones who keep the Scamdemic on the front page every hour. They are getting eaten by the monster they created.
Yeh, I have been using the HBOGo app on Roku but TimeWarner did away with it and is not making an app for HBOMax for Roku or Firestick but no biggie. HBO used to be the big dog for new movies and such but they have fallen way off.
If you have a Firestick the workaround is to sideload the HBO app. I’ve done it on all 3 of my Firesticks and it plays HBO Max just fine. Whenever they come out with the official HBO Max app for Firestick I’ll have to delete the sideloads. Just google “firestick sideload hbo max”.
