Israel and the United States want the UNSC to expand the mandate to better empower UNIFIL to investigate violations by Hezbollah.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on the Lebanese government to disarm the militant group Hezbollah in a report he intends to present to the United Nations Security Council next Tuesday.

The UN doesn’t want to have its HQ moved to Beirut?
What?
They’ll be getting rid of him soon.
Is there anyone from Hezbollah left? Seriously
I wonder if China will veto this in the UNSC to prop up Iran. Syria (and Russia) might not want more Hezbollah moving in from Lebanon. But China is a question mark.
They want the Lebanese army to disarm a militia that they can’t defeat in combat? How’s that supposed to work Mr. UN Secretary-General?
This may do it. That part of the port is apparently controlled by Hezbollah, and Hezbollah soldiers were seen there earlier. There had also been a lot of activity recently reported around these normally unvisited warehouses.
They know that, whether by accident or on purpose, Hezbollah is behind this hideous destruction.
Evidently there are. Not sure how many were killed in the blast. (death toll is around 100, with possibly 4,000 injured)
Many were killed by Israel’s air strikes.
Many were killed during the Syrian war.
Maybe its time to give up the ghost.
UN Secretary-General Guterres calls on Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah
Lot’s of luck, some one with high flying ideas must be day dreaming.
As long as there is someone to finance Hezbollah there will be jihadists. It’s a job. It’s a job in a culture where there essentially are no jobs for unskilled young men. Nothing that pays the way Hezbollah does, anyway.
To stop the jihad it is necessary to stop the financing. I think that Saudi Arabia is doing their best because if they don’t the kingdom is doomed. Also, Iran is running out of money. Probably much of the state sponsorship is drying up. We are left with individual wealthy men who feel guilty that they aren’t doing anything for Islam so they donate money to The Cause. If they can be tracked down and “persuaded” to stop giving then the Jihad will be over.
“As long as there is someone to finance Hezbollah there will be jihadists. Its a job.”
That someone is the Government of Iran. Hizbollah was created by the Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, as their Front Organization in Lebanon. Although they have diversified their income sources over time by muscling in on some local rackets, they are still under the absolute command of Tehran.
The Iranian economy and budget are in free fall, between oil sanctions and COVID. Hizbollah’s funding (and weapons supply) from Iran is under historic pressure. Its a vulnerable time for them.
Long long long long overdue. But unfortunately the UnitedNazis wont lift a finger against their terrorist gangster soulmates in hezballah or fatah or plo or hamas or Muslim brothers or al qaida or any of the 69 other Muslim murder gangs. The UnitedNazis loves them! So this UN request is just face saving words, nothing more and nothing real at all.
There are tons of them still there, plus Iranian proxies of all stripes.
They plan on using Lebanon as a northern front against Israel soon.
likely
Qatar is the primary finance vehicle.
Turkey and Iran are terrorist supporters with all the money milked out of the system.
They are shaken by the Beirut Blast.
You mean “give up on UN”?
You mean “get the sane to align and eliminate the Terrorists, like they did ISIS?
Iranians and Hezbollah are not good with advanced weapons. And big stuff. Their track record is horrible with chem weapons.
Israel and the US took out a lot of the Chem stuff from Sadam.
There maybe be tons of them left but 4000 injured or more. And maybe out of ammunition for awhile this is major. U dont walk away like nothing happened if you can walk away. They blew up their own asses. Im sure they will try to blame Israel. Day of rage should patch everyone up. Sometimes bad things happen to bad people.
