President Trump said Wednesday that the U.S. is considering banning the social media app TikTok amid fears that it could be used by China to spy on Americans.
'We're looking at TikTok, we're thinking about making a decision,' he told reporters in the South Lawn before departing the White House for a day trip to Texas.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who stood alongside Trump and addressed reporters, said TikTok is being looked at by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which reviews deals by foreign acquirers for potential national security risks.

They might force Apple and Google to change their OSs to block it.

Banning TikTok is not a winning strategy. I don’t use it, but tons of people do.
It might make perfect sense, because Tik Tok is 100% Chinese, and China has blocked almost every major American application.

I’ll install whatever software I damn well want on my device. It’s MY device. Even “locked down” garbage from Apple can be jailbroken / rooted. This is more unenforceable BS from Washington.
Not that I’d actually install TikTok, because it’s crap. And if I were an employer, I’d have to think about banning or restricting employee devices on premises if I had company sensitive information to protect. THAT is perfectly enforceable and doesn’t require some Washington bureaucrat.
I think we should do more of this, for real.

Millenials watch tik tok constantly. Banning is a good way for Trump to lose the election.
India has banned pretty much all Chinese apps. They even have their own app which will detect Chinese apps on your phone and delete them.
In addition, shut down Twitter.

This is the best idea for our country. Mimic what India has already done. Those who ALREADY have tick tock could be allowed to keep it (unless they work for government).
But the 2nd part, writing an APP that deletes ALL China spy apps is much better than just targeting Tick Tock. It seems obvious that the CCP did not stop at just using T/T to spy on everyone.
Actually, this is BRILLIANT. T/T will now become the darling of primarily the liberal whack jobs, so spying on them should become easier

They can absolutely shut tiktok down nationwide, immediately, without Apple/Google being involved.
You might can install whatever you want, but that doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to be able to reach the tiktok servers.
If tik tok is a spy software then Trump will be damned if he bans it or damned if he doesn’t. He might as well protect the country.
