War Between Greece and Turkey Is Now a Real Possibility

There has never been any love lost between Turkey and Greece, but the danger of war between the two NATO members has not been this high since the Cyprus conflict more than forty-five years ago. In the past, Turkey and Greece have gone to the brink, but policies initiated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan may very much push the two neighbors over the edge.

reek and Turkish fighter jets engaged in mock dogfights this week over the Greek island of Kastellorizo, just a mile and a half from the Turkish coast, causing tourists to flee. Meanwhile, there is a growing risk that the Turkish and Greek navies will clash, hundreds of miles to the west if Turkey pushes forward with its plans to survey for has in Greece’s exclusive economic zone. Greek officials say that all options are on the table, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel has rushed to mediate as U.S. officials remain largely absent.

>>Islam will always be an enemy.<<

SO true.
And so will be every communist country.

The US have been too chummy too long with Turkey and China. Neither can and should be trusted.

Turkey’s Islamic regime has been trying to create warfare (against Greece, Cypress, Israel, and they’ve invaded Syria and Libya already). Not to mention Turkey just turned the old cathedral into a mosque

Greece, Cypress, Israel have all been very patient and have so far avoided being sucked into war with Turkey

but its almost inevitable as long as the bloodthirsty Islamic Turkish regime remains in power.... (the most interesting outbreak will be if Turkey manages to provoke war with Russia, something that is very possible....given the geography and Turkish Islamic aggressivity)

I doubt that Greece could win an all out war with Turkey. Russia and Turkey are probably much more allied with each other and are more against the USA.

Greece was never there for us during the cold war.Soviets shot down flt. 007 on 1983. Greece called it a spy plane.

This. Since the end of WWII, Greece has always seemed borderline Communist and almost an outpost of Russia. Which is a little strange, given that its principal supporter from the start has been the West, personified by Lord Byron, who gave Greece everything he had, including his life, to extract the country from the grip of the Ottomans.

I think the reason is that NATO wants an “ally” on the south east border.

If the aren’t in NATO, where would their alliance go?

I understand the concerns about Turkey. I understand they are probably not reliable, but they have kept a buffer from a lot of the crap in the ME.

Has any country been booted from NATO? I honestly don’t recall.

Greece can’t afford a full out war. That’s the impression I get. Greece always seems to be in deep financial trouble.
This makes them beholden to organizations like the EU.

Neither of these cesspool countries has ever done anything to advance U.S. interests...

Let them duke it out and bloody their noses...

No one has ever been kicked out.
Apparently the Frogs left from 1966-2009.
Also, Turkey has the 2nd most troops in NATO.

“Not to mention Turkey just turned the old cathedral into a mosque” - In 1453, you mean.

How much longer will they also set their eyes of envy on Israel for their riches? The pace sure seems to be quickening.

That is a good way of putting it.

Greece has seemed borderline Communist all right but I think they will side with us in the end
