I hear ya... I turned down a fairly lucrative project in the ground zero area of Louisville. I turned it down. The reason the project pricing increases so much? You got it.. no one wants to be in the city.
Maybe the invader was freaked out seeing the husband dying in bed.;-) My husband was involved in some hairy political stuff. He and a fellow candidate had just delivered their alternative slate list to “officials” at the group’s picnic. As they drove away, a bullet smashed through their windshield. A while later he phoned one night, said he had been at a tense meeting and threats were made. I was to get out the pistol, load it, and sit in the dark by the window next to the front door and wait for him to get home. He arrived safely and I gave him the gun to unload and put away.
Earlier, after our house had been invaded, and my husband had taught me to shoot, I took it with me everywhere in our 4 story house. Our bedroom and office were on the 3rd floor and the kitchen and and laundry were in the basement. I would put some laundry in a basket, lay the pistol on top and put a towel over the gun. I carried it everywhere for several years until the level of crime in my area went down and I began to trust the bars and metal gates we had installed on windows and doors. Fortunately the crime level is much lower these days.
Good for you. In this wicked world and nation today, you just never know when evil may show up at your door, day or night. We live here in Alabama and there is really no family close to us except my brother who is 82 and his wife 78. I and my wife have had a lot of conversations that if I pass away before her, she is to move out to Arizona and live with her sister. That is the plan in place, just as long as her health will allow it. Her sister is my age, 69 in a month, and she is very healthy. Never had a doctor cut her up as I have, 15 surgeries and my wife has had 12. She battled breast cancer for years in her 20s. Thankfully she has been free of it all these years later. But, I don’t want her to stay here by herself, with no one to really rely on. So, she will go there. As for me, well, I will just have to manage. There are a few nephews around. If I leave them something, like the house, they might come around from time to time to see if I have kicked off so they can collect the $$$$!!! :-) But, it is she I worry about if the LORD calls me home first. At least we have that plan in place. Take care.
