President Trump announced from the White House Thursday afternoon the RNC convention in Jacksonville has been canceled.
Citing the ongoing battle against Wuhan coronavirus, President Trump said it is his duty to protect the American people and the timing of the event isn't going to work.
The announcement comes after the Republican National Committee moved the convention from Charlotte, North Carolina to Jacksonville in June because of ongoing reopening restrictions.

You have a bigger chance of getting killed in a car than from this Chinese flu. Yet, no one is shutting down cars!
As long as the convention happens somewhere. Cancel Charlotte, cancel Jackson, none of that matters.

It sucks but its unfortunately the right decision..you can’t have 40K in one room together, even with masks, it just would not work..now my suggestion would be having the convention OUTSIDE, like in a football stadium, notice no one got sick at Mt Rushmore July 4th event..so I think having the event outside would be the same thing, you could have 40K people and it would work

Yep. Nothing to gain by having a convention while it's "hot" now. All of this will be old news by November. COVID-19 will still be here but herd immunity will kick in, especially in the most populous areas in the country.

There may have been more reasons than COVID-19 that led to the decision to cancel the convention.
