Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the first game of Major League Baseball’s pandemic-delayed regular season.
The Washington Nationals announced Monday that Fauci -- a self-described fan of the reigning World Series champions -- accepted the team’s invitation to have the pregame honor Thursday night.
In their new release about Fauci’s role at the opener, the Nationals refer to him as “a true champion for our country” during the pandemic “and throughout his distinguished career.”

I was a Nats fan also. Love watching Max Scherzer pitch, among other things. And wow, they ended up winning the world series.
But...the twerking in the dugout after homers, the baby shark crap, and their announcer was really wearing me down.
Baseball was really holding out on all this nonsense and then POW now they’re all in.
One benefit of the virus is that it weaned me off it, and while I’m sad about it, I don’t miss it. I watched about 10 minutes of Yankee v. Mets the other day with cardboard people, face masks in the hot sun, and a fake applause track.
They’ve humiliated themselves and I’m laughing at them. I thank them for making the break easy, I guess.
