Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, told President Donald Trump on Saturday that he should say nothing on the passing of civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), apparently for partisan political reasons.
President Trump tweeted Saturday that he and First Lady Melania Trump were [s]addened to hear of Lewiss passing, and he ordered flags nationwide to be flown at half-mast in mourning..@realDonaldTrump while the nation mourns the passing of a national hero, please say nothing. Please dont comment on the life of Congressman Lewis. Your press secretary released a statement, leave it at that.
Please let us mourn in peace.— Congressmember Bass (@RepKarenBass) July 18, 2020
But Bass rejected the presidents gesture, and told MSNBC that she was outraged that flags were only being flown at half-mast for a day.Saddened to hear the news of civil rights hero John Lewis passing. Melania and I send our prayers to he and his family.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 18, 2020
(snip)
Bass is frequently mentioned as a top contender to be former Vice President Joe Bidens running mate in 2020.

But at the end of the article, we come to the real meat of all these vp nominee hopefuls, including this Atlanta Mayor Bottoms: I'm "Absolutely" Qualified To Be Vice President
Karen squared.
Yet, they can never point to any of these allegedly racist behaviors.
i find myself in agreement here. I have said nothing about him either. I dont have anything good to say.
Well, Karen, old gal....why would the POTUS say anything about a nothing?
If he says nothing he’ll be called raciss. If he praises him, he’ll be called raciss. If he condemns him he’ll be called raciss.
I listen to a Democrat as I listen to a fart...I await the sure to come smell.
No, no gracious bones. The ‘mare’ of atlanta, yeah, ‘bottoms’ of the barrel. And the only thing PDJT should say about H8er lewis, if anything, is he had a long life and hopes he rests in peace. No “He was an icon of the civil rights movement, blah, blah, blah.”
.....”Does anybody in the Democrat party / CBC possess a gracious bone?”......
No.
As I recall, there are rules for flying the National Flag at other than full staff. Half staff for one day for a Congressman, no matter how revered, seems correct. And possibly the day of the funeral, but I’m not certain about that. But the bottom line is there are rules.
You got it.
Trump says something nice about Lewis, and it’s never enough.
Trump says something factual about Lewis (later congressional career, not his earlier activist life), then swift condemnation on Trump’s disrespect all over the sphere.
What Trump tweeted and did (flags) hit just the right tone. If he had done/said too much, then it won’t ring true.
Who died and made her God?
Tell her spin on a bottle.
Not anymore
Totally in agreement with Samurai Jack. I have nothing to say. He was a racist bait trapper, and made a LOT of money on the side, using his skin pigment color. He showed his TRUE color when he would not honorable recognize in an Inauguration the duly elected choice of the American people. So I suppose Black Lives Matter will want now to erect his name above some Army Base in the south? Did the guy possess ANY patriotic, LOVE for the country. Say NOTHING.
One day at half staff is far too long.
My obituary for that scum:
John Lewis was a liar and a racist. His panicked admonition on local black radio for blacks to get out and vote for black candidates lest white republicans take over Atlanta and use fire hoses on them and sic dogs on them was disgusting and disingenuous. While he may have experienced discrimination in his past, he omits the part about it being his party, the democrats, wielding those hoses and siccing those dogs.
FU, John Lewis. Pound sand in Hell.
DJT:
Karen Bass is your typical NEW Democrat. Full of Hate and believing she can dictate what others say and think. She is an embarrassment to all that John Lewis stood for.
National hero and civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA)...
Who here knew that name before today?
Maybe 10% of our 13% black population knew of him.
Black reality is a big oxymoron.
I sure as heck!!
He was a nevertrumper!
He sullied the reputation of Diamond and Silk in Congress!!
