It’s time to challenge America’s repressive anti-riot laws (Wapo editorial)
The Washington Post ^ | July 16, 2020 | David Henderson

Posted on 07/18/2020 7:52:10 AM PDT by Salman

Anti-riot laws generally define a riot as a gathering that creates an immediate danger to property or people — which leaves room for interpretation on what constitutes “an immediate danger.” In Texas, the threshold for a riot stands at seven or more people.

When police officers have sole authority to make the call on whether there’s “immediate danger,” they can — and often do — exaggerate the circumstances, giving them wide latitude to arrest nonviolent protesters. Worse yet, if even one person throws rocks or a water bottle, then anyone in the general area can be arrested for riot participation. These unjust arrests, as with all arrests, fall hardest on people of color.

do not get fixated on the articles content.

the important thing to focus on is how the Washington Post is advocating the dismanteling of our country by terrorism.

That is what one responds to.

That is the important part of this article.

Yup. Police need to be herding rioters to the location of the local newspaper.

Then they should keep the rioters stuck there—hopefully for many hours and days.

The mass media needs to learn about riots the hard way—up close and personal.

Bull crap! First, they shouldn't be throwing rocks or bottles. Also, I have yet to see a wholesale arrest of everyone when just one rock was thrown. You're really stretching here. Second, who made you the arbiter of what an "unjust arrest" is? To me, if you break the law, it's justified to arrest you. Third, what does "fall hardest" mean.

Exaggerate the circumstances = Media

Ignore circumstances = Media

Facts are not what the media knows how to deal with it’s all about the lefts agenda.

It’s obvious this guy speaks for the crazies and is one himself. We need to seriously move to bring back insane asylums. We used to commit the violent crazies who couldn’t/wouldn’t conform, who behved outside normal standards of civilized society. Now, all the insane misfits are running around free on the streets, prime Soros’ recruits to conduct anarchy, mayhem, and trash our society.

It would be a real shame if the Washington Post or its staph suffered any harm or damage in a riot.

Peaceable assembly is a fundamental right, whose protection is guaranteed by the US Constitution.

Assembly and behaviour that are not peaceable--or peaceful--is not a right.

When those in assembly are not peaceable, their behavior must be stopped. They cannot be allowed to threaten or harm other people.

This is not only basic US law and basic morality but also basic common sense. Those who support the radical left have abandoned all of these.

My boys are Marines and they said all it would take is about 200 of them to hit the town dressed in civilian clothes and let them sort these rioters out. They both said there nearly all the Marines they serve and know would be up for it too.
I say get them to Portland and let the Marines have their way with these cowardly , marxist scumbags

...if even one person throws rocks or a water bottle, then anyone in the general area can be arrested for riot participation....

That $hit will stop quickly if police snipers are stationed where they can identify individual targets, and take out the first one to throw anything- then the second, if there is one. Drop a couple and the others will flee.
