Trump Wears Mask In Public For First Time During Walter Reed Visit
NPR ^ | 07/11/2020 | Alana wise

President Donald Trump on Saturday was photographed wearing a mask during a visit to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, after months of refusing to don the medical expert-recommended face coverings meant to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

"I love masks in the appropriate locations," Trump said, speaking to reporters at the White House before his visit.

Trump's usual reluctance to cover his mouth and nose in public has been a point of controversy during the nation's coronavirus crisis, especially as cases of COVID-19 continue to spike — particularly in Republican-led states.

Before taking off for Walter Reed, Trump said he'd "probably" wear a mask.

"I think when you're in a hospital, especially in that particular setting, where you're talking to a lot of soldiers and people that, in some cases, just got off the operating tables, I think it's a great thing to wear a mask," the president told reporters. "I've never been against masks, but I do believe they have a time and a place."

Smart move. Gives the right message, that it’s only the vulnerable that we need to worry about.

thank you

What is their point? I work in a hospital, and I wear a mask. And I get the vaccinations. I’ll do what my employer asks me to do.

Because when people are sick, they don’t come to my hospital to catch an illness and die. It is my job to do that, and I do it without reservation. If I can keep one person who comes through our door healthier by doing the things asked of me, I will do it.

And these military personnel who may be there (although I thought Walter Reed had closed-I spent a good number of nights outside there with the Free Republic DC Chapter counterprotesting the Code Pink scum) deserve that from their Commander in Chief the way my patients deserve it from me. It is a hospital.

Outside the hospital environment, I feel differently about this. I believe it should be left up to an individual to wear a mask outside or not. No questions asked. Their decision.

If a store requires a mask, you can choose to shop there or go somewhere else. Your choice.

If you are someone who has co-morbidities, you take precautions to protect yourself. You quarantine yourself if you feel you need to. Your choice.

This isn’t the plague with a 40% mortality rate. It is foolish to treat it as such.

Great post, I agree with almost all of it. But,,,

If you are someone who has co-morbidities, you take precautions to protect yourself. You quarantine yourself if you feel you need to. Your choice.

I have co-morbidities, and so I agree it is on me to not go to crowded restaurants and other such environments. But I can’t quarantine myself to the extent of not going shopping. Do you agree that when going to the gocery store people are morally obligated to wear a mask?

This mask wearing bs is just window dressing. And I don’t mean this as a knock at the president. I mean no one has any idea what good wearing a mask does. Fauci himself admitted he lied about it’s effectiveness.

In the hospital I work at in southern NJ as of last week we had a total of 13 confirmed Covid positive cases. And we have a capacity of about 600 beds. Typically we have about 350 to 400 patients at anyone time. During flu season it spikes up a bit but 13 Covid cases doesn’t sound like a pandemic to me.

The whole mask wearing bit is bs. During any flu season that you and I have been on this Earth were we ever told to wear a mask?

To be honest with you I don’t put on face masks. If I am going into a shop and they tell me masks only, I simply go elsewhere.

Me too. I do have some leftover masks from when my Dad lived with me—he was in fragile health, and if I was sick and absolutely had to go into his room, I would wear a mask to try to prevent him from catching it.

Unfortunately his home health nurse would come in with colds and no mask—every time she did that he wound up in the hospital.

“Deep red states like South Dakota have had very very few deaths. Republican states are vastly better off.”

Because the freedom permitting citizens to NOT wear masks created herd immunity. That’s exactly why God gave us kick-ass immune systems. Avoiding every cootie with a mask or distancing just makes a system more vulnerable.

OTOH, who’s to say more deaths in blue states is a bad thing? Certainly not I. If they’re going for Darwin Awards, let them.

“he took it as if it was a political thing against him”

Because it was/is.

“Just wear a mask or whatever we need to do to get this over with”

It won’t be “over with” until herd immunity kicks in. That won’t happen if people are cowering behind masks all the time. It just prolongs the inevitible.

“I hope the president’s willingness to wear one when the circumstances call for it will cause some people to reconsider.”

It definitely will cause people to reconsider, i.e., reconsider whether they vote in November or not. He’s caving on too many things, and this pandering to the hoaxters is just one more. DACA. Perhaps Juneteenth. Just no.

Trump should never have put on a mask. It was succumbing to a constant drumbeat by the MSM to force the Prez to “submit”. It’s a control thing, and he knows it. The triumphalism of the leftists on TV today/tonight was palpable. The video of him wearing the mask was shown over and over again. They take his wearing of a mask as a big win. From this point on he should never wear a mask in public again.

Go outdoors (or even indoors) and look at all the Sheeple walking around in their masks, everywhere you go. It almost makes me physically and psychologically sick, watching the passivity of the populace succumbing to their leftist masters. We are so far gone and spineless now. Take a look around at all your fellow citizens looking like bandits. Wearing the same polluted masks day after day, breathing in their own germs, depriving themselves of fresh air and oxygen, looking like fools, fiddling with their masks with germ filled hands, being so obviously obsequies to their new government masters. Stopping herd immunity and just prolonging the inevitable. Fools all.

Oh but don’t you know, the masks are now a fashion statement. Clever entrepreneurs are becoming new millionaires making designer masks. A new addition to citizens’ wardrobes. Just think, you may be wearing your fashion statement forever. Breathe deeply folks, but only when you sleep.

“look at all the Sheeple walking around in their masks, everywhere you go. It almost makes me physically and psychologically sick,”

My feelings precisely. Besides making me sick, it makes me angry that so many people are so ignorant.

“Trump should never have put on a mask. It was succumbing to a constant drumbeat by the MSM to force the Prez to ‘submit’. It’s a control thing, and he knows it.”

Definitely. Just as he submitted to all of Fauci’s dictates, and turned over control of the country to the little goblin. I don’t get why he’s caving on this. I’m embarrassed for him.

I think if the store sets the policy, that settles the question. Their store, their choice.

And I am not against wearing a mask somewhere if the only rationale is it keeps someone from freaking out.

Bottom line, I see a difference between indoor and outdoor use. Outdoors, I don’t think ANYONE should be mandated. I think it is stupid and silly.

When you go to the grocery store, do you wear a mask? Why or why not? If your answer is “Yes, because the store I go to requires it,” would you wear one if it didn’t?
