The US Supreme Court has ruled that President Trump must release his financial records so that they can be examined by prosecutors in New York.
In a related case, the court ruled Mr Trump did not have to share this information with Congress.
It’s much closer to a real win, but that’s not entirely right about the Congressional case. The seven justices in the majority didn’t bar it entirely, they just said that the lower courts did not take adequate account of the separation of powers concerns and remanded, so there will still be some nonsense going on about that unless the Dems just give it up. Alito and Thomas dissented and would have made it a solid victory for Trump.
In theory, I dont think any president should be able to avoid criminal investigation and prosecution. That being said, there probably is no way to keep that from being used as a weapon against the political opposition. This is precedent setting and will just lead to more issues.
both are wins for Trump, esp the congress decision...these are both political stunts.
The NY state prosecutor needs to go back to the lower court where Trump and his lawyers will fight well past the election.
Congress can go and piss in their hat because they will not get through the lower courts in time for the election.
If Trump wins then both houses of congress will be pubbie and the congressional harassment of Trump stops.
If Trumps loses, lock and load, it will be bad.
The real pandemic is TDS — Trump Derangement Syndrome. Like toxoplasmosis, it has wormed its way into every left-of-center brain in Christendom, and a good many non-leftist noggins as well. Every single current event and the resulting “news” coverage, without exception, now needs to be seen thru this lens. And Nadler definitely shouldn’t be noshing on nuggets from the litterbox.
Yep. We were promised action and justice - and here we sit - 3 1/2 years later - with NOTHing but promises of future action in the 2nd term. Not holding my breath.
Exactly. And if he loses, my prediction is that he will resign the morning after the election, swear in Pence as POTUS and have him pardon Trump. Period.
It will be bad whether Trump wins or not. A different type of bad, but there will be leftist violence either way, I am sure.
No. Superficial news report.
POTUS doesn't have absolute privilege or immunity to withhold tax info from prosecutors, but he does have same the same rights as any other citizen (proscutors who go on fishing expeditions are afoul of process).
Case on financial records to NY prosecutor goes back to lower court.
On the Congressional fishing expedition, lower courts didn't properly assess the separation of powers, so that case goes back too.
Both cases continue. No conclusion to either yet. call it win or lose depending on preferred spin.
but there will be leftist violence either way, I am sure.
When in fact, the patriots should be the ones bringing the violence to this country, but alas, the coup against the AMERICAN PEOPLE continues.
Unless Vance already has the returns, he has nothing to leak. The ruling said that the President was not immune, which I never thought he had. But it said that he could freely drag out the appeals process and then the Supreme Court would rule on whether the underlying merits of the case warranted his turning over his tax returns to a State Court.
Doesn’t he need to be accused of a crime to be prosecuted with probable cause respective to the accusation?
IF NY has them Pelozi and Schummer have them.
Since the 5th amendment means nothing, how does edicts from the rulers in black mean anything anymore? Their power is enumerated in the very Constitution they nullify.
I’m sorry. I am not understanding this ruling at all. What was Trump’s crime that the NY DA must have his financial records?
We are pleased that in the decisions issued today, the Supreme Court has temporarily blocked both Congress and New York prosecutors from obtaining the Presidents financial records. We will now proceed to raise additional Constitutional and legal issues in the lower courts.
...so that they can be examined by prosecutors in New York.
