A major reason for moving the bulk of the Republican National Convention from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Jacksonville, Florida, was the north Florida city's intent to make the renomination spectacle for President Trump mask-free.
Until Monday, when, according to Politico, Republican Mayor Lenny Curry was finalizing a citywide mask order amid a spike in COVID-19 cases across Florida. That new rule would extend to indoor events as well. The GOP convention is slated to be hosted at Jacksonville's Veterans Memorial Arena on Aug. 25-27.
The GOP initially had planned to host its gathering in Charlotte but ultimately moved its location to Florida after a spat between Trump and the governor over whether city and state government, with a Democratic governor of North Carolina and a Democratic mayor of Charlotte, would allow such a large, indoor gathering in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Wearing masks, which virtually every public health expert agrees is a way to cut down the transmission of the coronavirus, has been a sore spot for Trump, who is often seen in public not wearing one.
The Trump campaign has repeatedly mocked presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden for wearing a mask. In May, the campaign released several Facebook ads chiding Biden for his face covering. That same month, Biden called Trump an " absolute fool" for failing to abide by government guidelines encouraging mask use.

Jacksonville is experiencing an increase in Covid cases, and masks are very understandable, ESPECIALLY indoors. This really truly is not the hill on which to make a stand. Wear the damn mask.
Yeah, “wear the damn mask” and vote Biden. Trump is a guaranteed loser if we’re still fighting the Chicom flu wars in November. Wear the mask Karens on the right only enable Democrat wins in November.
I had a mother. She died 30 years ago. I don’t need another one, thank you!
Pennsylvania started doing masks in early days and they have been successful in slowing the spread. While the masks are not going to filter out Covid laced droplets if someone without a mask sneezes or coughs on you, especially if you are within six feet of them for five or more minutes, but if the sneezing and coughing person is wearing a mask, their spit droplets will be largely caught by the mask they are wearing, keeping them away from you. Thats how it works.

They are gonna need a whole lot of do-gooders to enforce it as people just stop wearing them after a bit. Not enough cops. It’s called overwhelming majority rules. Happens at protests all the time. Do what seems right. Brains.
Why ?
We don't wear them for the flu, and it is becoming increasingly apparent the mortality rate for COVID-19 is no worse than the flu (~0.01%).
Pennsylvania started doing masks in early days and they have been successful in slowing the spread......
There is no way to prove that
if the sneezing and coughing person is wearing a mask, their spit droplets will be largely caught....
Symptomatic individuals should stay home and not wear a mask
Here is a link to U.S. Covid data including deaths and deaths per million, as well as flu deaths averaged over a ten year period. This side by side comparison alone proves that Covid-19 is more lethal than the flu.

A bit late for that now.
Here is a fast tracked peer reviewed study

Sorry to hear you are brainwashed.
Apparently many Freepers on this thread have moved to the limp spine, ‘we’re all gonna die’ crowd. Sad. Show me stats of real covid, real hospitalizations...there aren’t any.
If all masks were discontinued, all gloves, there would be no change. None, nada.
Freudian slip?
May 11th, 60 Minutes interview: Dr. Fauci - “Right now in the United States, people should not be walking around wearing masks.” His rationale? Makes people touch their faces way more often. Oh, and by the way, where’s the peer reviewer, exhaustive studies that prove your assertion? There are none.
To the contrary, TheBMJ (the British Medical Journal) On April 7th, 2020,said “Commenting on these findings, Simon Clarke, associate professor in cellular microbiology at the University of Reading, said, There is only very limited evidence of the benefits of wearing face masks by the general public, no evidence that wearing them in crowded places helps at all, and no evidence at all yet related to covid-19 . . .”
They also said “A preprint of a rapid systematic review has assessed the current evidence on respiratory illnesses and the use of face masks (mainly surgical paper masks) in community settings. The paper, yet to be peer reviewed, included 31 studies, of which 12 were randomised controlled trials. The researchers reported that wearing facemasks can be very slightly protective against primary infection from casual community contact, and modestly protective against household infections when both infected and uninfected members wear facemasks. However, they said that many of the studies suffered from poor compliance and controls.
And about cloth masks they said “The study, involving the industry partner 3M (which makes medical masks), reported that healthcare workers should not use cloth masks as protection against respiratory infection. Cloth masks resulted in significantly higher rates of infection than medical masks, and also performed worse than the control arm.
So what studies are you basing your outlandish claims on?
Have a nice day.
Increased testing, no spike in deaths or hospitalizations...seems like someone in Jax is trying to pull off a bait and switch on the convention.
Nobody knows what the situation will be in two months.
If youre pretty sure you arent a sheep you wont worry about a mask turning you into one.
But if you arent so secure you may worry about how you look.
