Hundreds of National Guard troops mobilized to protect DC monuments amid protests

Hundreds of troops with the Washington, D.C., National Guard have mobilized to protect monuments in the nation's capital, a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News on Wednesday.

Interior Secretary David Bernhardt requested the action earlier this week, as protesters target statues and other historical markers during ongoing demonstrations in the wake of George Floyd's police custody death in Minneapolis at the end of May.

Protesters on Monday attempted to tear down a statue of Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square by the White House, and defaced it with the phrase "killer scum," Reuters reported. Berhardt said afterward that he visited Lafayette Square and witnessed the destruction. He said the country “will not bow to anarchists," and that "law and order will prevail, and justice will be served.”

The Lincoln Memorial and WWII Memorial were also defaced in earlier protests.

During a protest on Tuesday that took place in front of D.C. Emancipation Memorial, one demonstrator announced that on Thursday they would tear down the memorial's statue of Abraham Lincoln standing over a freed slave.

President Trump warned Tuesday morning that anyone caught vandalizing monuments or any other federal property would be subject to arrest and face up to 10 years in prison under federal law.

D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, meanwhile, announced a more formal measure against the Emancipation Memorial, stating that she will introduce a bill calling for the statue to be removed from its home in Lincoln Park and placed in a museum.

That is a great question! I would apply two tests:

1. Was the person moral within the context of his time?
2. Did the person do more good than bad?

So Thomas Jefferson gets a pass. Yes, he owned slaves. But within the context of the times that was not considered an evil thing. And of course, founding the country was a very good thing to do.

Saddam Hussein obviously fails test #2. But I freely admit that test #2 is very subjective. (Some people in Russia today argue that Stalin did more good than bad!)

The truth is the number of arrests would be 10’s of thousands, there are too many to arrest. In the end, the US Military will have to move against this threat or lose the country to them. It’s as simple as that, we are in a war now, it has begun we just are too stupid to realize it.

Yep riot stuff like that won't be going down in Podunkville USA. They won't be met by unarmed National Guard but by local guys and gals with loaded weapons and a low tolerance for nonsense. That's already happened around here. A bunch of yahoos were going to approach and camp out at a statue and were told to promptly F off, to which they complied.

I agree with your entire post. The old-school Democrat leadership (Pelosi, Biden, etc.) have foolishly opened a Pandora’s Box. They do not yet understand their mistake. But eventually it will become obvious. Of course, they will never admit to it.

I’ve posted that very thing on here a couple of times the past couple of weeks. Everybody thinks it “radica” but it isn’t...it’s reality.
IF, God forbid, pedoJoe wins the POTUS and the senate flips over to the communists, within 6 months or less, there’ll be legislation to try and disarm the People. Within 6-12 months, every single church and synagogue will be banned and force to close their doors due to new “hate crime” legislation. After that, they’ll release their “flying monkeys” to raze them to the ground.

Whomever Trump’s advisors are, this has really bad optics. He’s protecting statuary, but not the property of people being ruined by looters and arsonists. The one thing property owners know is that whatever else Trump might do for them, he won’t keep them safe. He could have mobilized the military, trampled on the governors and imposed law and order. Instead, he let the disorder continue. Eisenhower jumped in to enforce desegregation, a subject few Americans other than blacks and leftists gave a crap about. It’s simply amazing how Trump has sidestepped the opportunity to bring order to chaos, while sneering at local officials. To property owners, he is sneering at them. Will Trump lose in a Goldwater-scale landslide, thereby giving Democrats the opportunity to impose European-style socialized health care? I hope not, but it’s not looking good.

Do we have enough leaders, in politics or military, who truly love our country and constitution? Because this war cannot be fought by a bunch of individual patriots working disorganized and 9n our own, not coordinated and working, fighting together. I believe we are dealing with enemies domestic and foreign, and they do have power. They control every pillar of pur society, media, education, etc. We have power, but do we have the will do do what needs to be done? And courageous leaders to organise?
