Governor Lee Says Peaceful Protest Encouraged Violence Not Tolerated

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said Friday that peaceful protest is encouraged, but he said violence and camping on state property "will not be tolerated."

A rally "to reclaim" the Legislative Plaza at the State Capitol in Nashville was planned for Friday night.

Governor Lee said, "We encourage Tennesseans to exercise their First Amendment rights and have seen many examples of peaceful protests across our state in recent weeks.

As demonstrations continue, we will continue to protect Tennesseans' right to peaceful assembly, while also reassuring citizens that lawlessness, autonomous zones, and violence will not be tolerated.

"Further, Tennessee law expressly prohibits camping on state property not expressly designated as a campground area, and that law will be enforced."

U.S. Senate candidate Bill Hagerty said, "Tennessee is not Seattle. We respect the rule of law and any rioters, looters or domestic terrorists who vandalize or destroy Nashville should be arrested.

“I proudly support our law enforcement officers who are on the front lines protecting our communities from domestic terrorist groups like ANTIFA. The Democrats’ call to defund and dismantle the police has ushered in new lawlessness, and it must be stopped.”

If they start wide scale rioting in Memphis or Nashville, no way the city could control it. Especially Memphis. It’s pretty lawless as it is.

This God loving law abiding American citizen will go down to Chattanooga to the Nat cemetery to join her WWII veteran husband all by herself in the back of a hearse with indifferent strangers...

I am so sorry for you and your neighbor's loss.   You immediately caused me to wonder what the Patriot Guard Riders' stance is on that Tennessee lockdown and suppression.

One of the saddest things about all of this hysteria is people dying alone and being buried alone. Prayers for her and her family.

It is horrible. I have a invalid husband ( 81 years old) and he was hospitalized for a month during the virus. I was not able to see him until I went and picked him up. It really did a number on him emotionally. SO WRONG!!!

It is horrible. I’m so glad that you and your husband got through it all. It is so hard both for the sick person who is isolated and the person who wants to be there to help. There’s no way this level of stress could help in anybody’s recovery.

I am thankful that you are together again. Prayers for you both.

“she wont be having a funeral like she planned...this same TN Gov wont let the family have a funeral or go to the cemetery with her.

That’s insane. I like to think that our down-home TN politicians would be logical. We voted for Lee, but aren’t happy with him. We do elect some losers — Alexander, Corker, etc.

My sister’s MIL, in assisted living, was secluded from family since Fauci started running the country. She went from living a full, happy, social life to dementia within four weeks’ time. Daughters had visited daily, then ... nothing. She became a prisoner.

During the last week, her home dropped some of the restrictions and she can have visitors — but only one at a time. It’ll be interesting to see if some of the Fauci damage can be reversed.

Ive never voted for Lee, Alexander or Corker...

Alexander was in his last term as Gov when we moved here in 1986 and I never voted for that liberal hypocrite for US Senate...

I knew Corker he had been the idiot liberal mayor of Chattanooga ...

Reminds me to check in with my local RNC ‘headquarters’ to see if the ‘party’ sees a primary opponent for Lee on the radar. While they recover from the vapors; I will inform them that Tennessee does NOT need a Governor who VIOLATES the Constitution by ordering a lockdown over a flu/cold bug. See ya, Lee.

I meant “we” as the GOP as a whole, not me personally. I despised Alexander before we moved to TN so never voted for Alexander. I am not sure about Corker. Lee ... I voted against Dean, so Lee. (He sure is slimy, isn’t he?)

I wish “we” (GOP in TN) were smarter. I think Memphis and Nashville skew things to the left. We’re still learning the nuances of TN politics.

According to the Washington Post Database, Fatal Force, 41 unarmed people were killed in 2019 at the hands of the police. Of those 41, 10 were black. Of those 10, 5 were killed while attempting to assault the police officer in question. While all of this is sad and tragic, it is hardly evidence of “systemic racism” or “black genocide” at the hands of law enforcement given our total population of over 320 million people. The real black genocide is happening at planned parenthood abortion mills across the country, where black women are over represented by a factor of 3 to 1, and on the violent streets of Chicago and other urban areas at the hands of other black men.

https://www.guttmacher.org/infographic/2017/abortion-rates-race-and-ethnicity

DOJ statistics complied in a report during the Obama Administration (2011) show that blacks (mostly males), who make up 13% of the population, committed half of all homicides (52%) in the United States over a nearly 30 year period between 1980 and 2008. The sad reality is young black men are statistically far more likely to die violently at the hands of another young black male than through any action by law enforcement.

From the Obama-era DOJ report:
Based on available data from 1980 to 2008—
- Blacks were disproportionately represented as both homicide victims and offenders. The victimization rate for blacks (27.8 per 100,000) was 6 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000). The offending rate for blacks (34.4 per 100,000) was almost 8 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000) (table 1).
- Males represented 77% of homicide victims and nearly 90% of offenders. The victimization rate for males (11.6 per 100,000) was 3 times higher than the rate for females (3.4 per 100,000). The offending rate for males (15.1 per 100,000) was almost 9 times higher than the rate for females (1.7 per 100,000).
- Approximately a third (34%) of murder victims and almost half (49%) of the offenders were under age 25. For both victims and offenders, the rate per 100,000 peaked in the 18 to 24 year-old age group at 17.1 victims per 100,000 and 29.3 offenders per 100,000.

https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/htus8008.pdf

There is also evidence from the National Academy of Sciences that, as the % of minority representation in police forces increases, the likelihood of a minority being shot rises.

“We report three main findings: 1) As the proportion of Black or Hispanic officers in a FOIS increases, a person shot is more likely to be Black or Hispanic than White, a disparity explained by county demographics; 2) race-specific county-level violent crime strongly predicts the race of the civilian shot; and 3) although we find no overall evidence of anti-Black or anti-Hispanic disparities in fatal shootings, when focusing on different subtypes of shootings (e.g., unarmed shootings or “suicide by cop”), data are too uncertain to draw firm conclusions. We highlight the need to enforce federal policies that record both officer and civilian information in FOIS.

Feelings are no substitute for facts. Violent Anger is no substitute for reason.
