I have two Honda 3KW generators with a connector cable so I can get up to 6KW. Very quiet units. After Hurricane Rita we were out of power for about 4 days in 95F. I powered my fridge/freezer to make ice. Put the ice in a bucket under a fan. Created primitive A/C. Slept comfortably those nights.

The bigger generator is rated very low noise. That was the primary reason we didn’t get one in the past. The smaller, battery powered generator can be used indoors. With all that, we’re still hoping the generators don’t get called into action any time soon.

Thanks for getting back on the mound NN. The “experts” say you will be busy this season.

Have always heard great things about Honda engines. Have a Honda pressure washer. Excellent reliability.

We've got enough power to run the medium-size refrigerator and the portable air conditioner, fan; recharge iPhones, iPads and laptop computer.

I do like the idea of the Vornado fan blowing air over a block of ice. Yet another wonderful tip shared on these threads!

Eeesh...I was doing so well until you reminded me how much I miss baseball. Anyway, great to see you back for another silly storm season!

This is a good time for GOM coastal dwellers to verify storm preps are in good shape. It’s also a good time for most of us to check in with each other. Folks like you, not so much. Nobody is stopping you from taking leave. Dismissed.

On a related note, some years ago I invested in a largish agricultural tank, as we had been in a drought for a few years and had significant outdoor water use restrictions. Tank went in late Spring, capturing rainwater from my roof, along with an irrigation pump.

It promptly started raining seriously that Summer, really seriously that Fall and Winter, such that by Spring, all the reservoirs were full. Made me wonder if I should have invested.

I’m intrigued with that Nexus thing, what’s the deal with that? I’ll have to study it a little, I don’t understand it and don’t like that!

I’m still operating with a getting-long-in-the-tooth 20-year-old pull start 4500W/5500W surge gasoline genset that has gotten me through a few long outages with heat (runs gas heat furnace), refrigeration, and basic lighting, network, and TV.

"You can thank me in November. "

Congratulations on the investments and I too hope it was a waste of your time.

Good luck this year.

It is part of the EGO set of battery operated lawn equipment. We have the self-propelled mower (great), leaf blower (my favorite), weed-whacker (great), hedge trimmer (great), edger (great) and chainsaw (excellent). Batteries are interchangeable. Excellent reviews.

Had been eyeing the inverter generator for a year. Waited until comfortable with the durability of the yard gadgets to spring for the generator/inverter. Batteries have come a long way in the past couple of years. 3 year warranty.

You know that’s the origin of a ton of air conditioning, right?

You melt a ton of ice over 24 hours, using it to cool air, and that’s a ton of air conditioning.

In the grand scheme of 2020, a small hurricane/tropical storm is a nothingburger. I want a do-over for 2020, please.

But yeah, I’ll take the diversion.

Is it the same thing as a swamp cooler?

Yeah, I could use the blower. I have a nice Stihl gasoline backpack blower, but I’d like an electric to do the deck with when it needs a dusting. Still need something decent, deck is about 1100 SF. That looks like it would do just fine.
