You know that’s the origin of a ton of air conditioning, right? You melt a ton of ice over 24 hours, using it to cool air, and that’s a ton of air conditioning.

Is it the same thing as a swamp cooler?

A swamp cooler evaporates water, no ice involved. Doesn’t really work well in Gulf states, the humidity of the air works against you. It’s more of a Southwest / desert thing.

Swamp cooler is an evaporative cooler that works well in hot dry climates. Refrigerated air works better in humid climates.
