Asphyxiation not the cause of George Floyd's death: Autopsy
The Washington Times ^ | Friday, May 29, 2020 | Valerie Richardson

George Floyd died Monday from a combination of preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation, based on the medical examiner’s initial report.

Preliminary findings from a Tuesday autopsy conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint filed Friday against former officer Derek Michael Chauvin.

“Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease,” said the complaint from the Hennepin County Attorney. “The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”

The Minneapolis police officer fired earlier this week was charged Friday with third-degree murder and manslaughter after kneeling on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Video showed he was unresponsive for the last 2 minutes and 53 seconds.

“Police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous,” the complaint said.

According to the filing, officers confronted Mr. Floyd after receiving a 911 call saying that he had paid for merchandise at Cup Foods with a phony $20 bill. They found him nearby in his vehicle with an adult male and female.

Mr. Floyd, who was six feet tall and weighed over 200 pounds, was handcuffed and led to the squad car, but resisted getting inside, saying he was claustrophobic.

While standing, he said repeatedly he couldn’t breathe. Mr. Floyd struggled as officers tried to force him into the car and fell to the ground. Two officers held him down while Officer Chauvin pressed his knee on the suspect’s neck.

Mr. Floyd said “I can’t breathe” multiple times, as well as

Won’t matter to the rioters. They’ll be out tonight probing the defenses.

What part of “preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down” don’t you understand?

The last 3 minutes when he was unresponsive and the officer still did not get off his neck and back are why the 3rd homicide and manslaughter charges were made.

Maybe the guy would have died anyway, but we will never know because Chauvin was a stubborn pig who didn’t give proper consideration to the life that was in his custudy.

Even on the side of the neck, that would cut off blood reaching the brain, and you might see him pass out. But he was claiming he couldn’t breath and that is done by pressure to the front of the throat. Plus the second cop said, if he’s talking, he’s breathing. I think he was having a heart attack. Only God and the cop know for sure how hard he was pressing down on the neck, and God ain’t talking just yet.

He was alive until the cop took a knee on his neck. Then he died.

This is a fact, and it is not in dispute.

Medical examiner just threw a 500 gallon barrel of gasoline onto the flames. This is going to get uglier and uglier.

The video of George Floyd suffering and unsuccessfully pleading for his life is horrifying and beyond understanding. He would be alive today if the four cops (especially the one who kneed his neck) hadn’t pinned him down for an extended period of time. It’s not like he was armed, unrestrained, and had committed a violent crime.

George Floyd was treated WORSE than a wild animal, and now he’s dead.

Wow. This is Eric Garner all over again.

Who also was not choked to death.

But why let facts stand in anyone’s way. Lets riot and burn the mother down!

Next, private autopsy by-————— Is it CV-19 related in any way? Short of a conviction, well even then it may not be enough.

The toxicology reports are not back yet. The 911 caller told dispatch he appeared intoxicated.

They will charge the cops anyway to appease the mob and hopefully dial down the likelihood of nationwide rioting.

The coroner said the restraint contributed to his death. Underlying medical conditions aside, without the officer kneeling on his neck Floyd would not be dead. The murder charge is warranted.

Not believing it.

Government privilege.

Government workers protecting government workers in their Government Union.

African Americans will see it as white privilege and government will fan those flames.

exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation,

What a bunch of BS. The Federal government should start looking into wholesale corruption in this city.

“The toxicology reports are not back yet. The 911 caller told dispatch he appeared intoxicated.”

That’s what I figured.

So why mention potential intoxicants? Poorly worded statement.

If your grandfather, or father had/has coronary artery disease and they died of a myocardial infarction or an arrhythmia when someone mugged them, wouldn’t you feel that the mugger was responsible for their death?

This guy wasn’t being mugged. He was being detained because he was engaging in criminal behavior.

“They probably won’t charge the cops.”

Nope, they will be charged with something.

So if they suspected a medical condition like a heart attack, why the knee on the neck then?

He might have been faking. Note that the deceased is a felon who was involved in a home invasion and held a gun against a woman’s head. I don't know if he was gentle, but he was definitely a giant. Here's a picture of the guy:

My estimate is 250 lbs. In that area, that squad of police was basically a Fort Apache on wheels, watching for people to take a potshot. The knee on the neck is right out of the MPD manual. In hairy areas, the idea is to keep the hands free to return fire from the man’s friends or ward off attacks from random ferals angry that a black criminal is being hassled.

In Minneapolis, kneeling on a suspect’s neck is allowed under the department’s use-of-force policy for officers who have received training in how to compress a neck without applying direct pressure to the airway. It is considered a “non-deadly force option,” according to the department’s policy handbook.

Thank you. Anyone saying this was OK is a fool.

He was CUFFED and face down. There is ZERO excuse to put all your weight on the neck of somebody that is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY now they’re in your custody. This was disgusting. Sure, he had health issues - does anyone think he wouldn’t be alive right now but for this incident?

If they had cut off the blood to his brain, how does that show up in an autopsy?

This will help the defense enormously. The cop with his knee and the dead gut's neck will still do some time....and,IMO,he needs to do some time despite these findings.

And although I'm not a lawyer it's hard for me to imagine the Feds filing any charges...unless that have one of *their* pathologists do another autopsy.
